Subscription Fee for all platforms

Post » Thu Mar 20, 2014 4:28 pm

Hello I absolutely loved the Elder Scrolls Online Beta on the mac and have preordered the digital imperial edition from the elderscrollsonline.com website and I also am wanting to preorder the imperial editions for both the xbox one and playstation 4 as well but the question I have is will i have to pay another subscription fee for each version of the game ?

like i know the pc and mac version is one subscription and that theres cross platform play between the two letting your account have the same characters for if you have pc or mac.

I know that the xbox one has there own servers and you will have characters on there and the ps4 version has its own servers with its own characters on there with no cross platform play and i also know that you don’t need PS+ in order to play it and I know that you need XBL gold to play ESO on xbox one it doesn’t matter because I have both PS+ and XBL thats not the question the question is about the ESO subscription fee

if i have a subscription for ESO will i have to buy another subscription for both the ps4 and xbox one or will my email address tired to my ESO account show that i am already paying and will it allow me to have to only pay one sub fee of $15 a month in order to play it on all platforms PC/MAC XB1,PS4 ?

I also signed up for the beta access to both the xbox one and ps4 as well can’t wait for monkey and the 5 days early access on both as well as the imperial edition bonuses on them as well and for my pc/mac version which early access starts on Sunday March 30th 2014

also would be cool to have a discounted price for both the xb1 and ps4 versions of the game since i am paying $100 each for the 3 of them well $80 for the digital pc mac imperial version. and I know your wondering why buy it for all platforms its because I love playing moms on the pc/mac and i also have friends that want to play with me on both ps4 and xb1

Can't say for sure on a discount bit or not, but typically as far as I can recall any MMO that was on a console and pc had separate subscriptions for each one and no discounts or cross over. I could be mistaken though and don't know that they've ever said anything about a discount for ESO.

Its unlikely they will link your account cross platform in any way. No other game of note does this, and its understandable why. Each platform is effectivly its own game, and should be treated as their own. PC/Mac are not considered different platforms because they are essentially the same thing.

Separate servers so you have to have separate subscriptions.

you are paying for different services, you need to understand this. xbox servers/ps4 servers are not the pc servers. therefore, different money goes into them. you can't buy once and play on all, that'd be cutting out money they need to maintain and update you know

If one paid subscription was valid for both platforms I would definitely be purchasing a copy for my XBox One as well.

Irrespective of how the business sees them, as a customer I see it as a single game that I should be able to play anywhere. This is the case when I buy a game on the Mac and want to play it on my PC.

Not exactly. If the player base is considerably lower on PS4 and Xbox One then it is on the PC/Mac version do you think they will release new content more frequently on the PC/Mac version and miss them entirely on the other versions? That's one sure fire way to lose customers. Further, I think that money generated from a large population on the PC/Mac platforms will be used to fund the other platforms anyway. So what's the problem?

I would certainly buy the game for both, but I wouldn`t pay twice for subs. If they combined accounts at least for subscription I`d buy for console version in a flash.

My unwillingness to contribute with a more meaningful reply should be taken as a challenge to format opening posts better, you know, with paragraphs and the like.

If a person has something to say that was worth the time and effort to type it, they really should go that extra tiny step and make it readable, otherwise by what right can they claim to deserve an earnest response?

I am also wondering if the pc/mac version will end up getting updated more frequently but i do get the point that they are their own servers but still would be nice because how many people are actually going to buy the game twice ? i bet if one sub fee was announced that works for all then more people would end up buying different versions because they'll be like "sweet only one sub fee then I might as well get it on pc and console to interact with the different player bases"

If you consider that a lot of text, how did you ever get through school and pass exams?

It wasn't the quantity of text I was referring to, but the formatting (also I am currently on my 4th year studying for a law degree... I wonder if you have any idea how much reading is involved in that?).

I see the author has since edited his post to break it up into paragraphs, which is why this distinction may not have been obvious to you.

Yes I do know what that is like, I did my degree in less than 4 years part time whilst also working a 50 hour week at the same time. It's called hard work, which you already know.

I do understand if you are currently reading the boards tired beyond all belief and not able to concentrate though, because I have been there. But actually the formatting looks fine to me, when I posted my earlier response it was fine to read IMO.

Good luck with your studies

Edit: Looking back at the thread it does look as though the OP edited to break it up a bit before I posted, which explains our different reactions to it. And thank you to the OP for doing so, it does make a difference :)

I would not be surprised if every player had a SINGLE account on elderscrolls.com that would allow them to log into the game regardless of what hardware he uses to do the login.

Gonna be that guy for a sec.

While it has been some time since it has been of any note imo, FFXI has all platform versions of itself on the same servers. PC, PS2/3, and Xbox 360 versions of the game all run simultaneously on the same servers. And as such you of course have to pay for individual physical copies of the game, but they can all be linked to the same account. I know this first hand, because for 10 years i could use the same character on both my PC and my PS2 and PS3.

Now of course this made updates a chore, as SE could only really grow and expand as well as the weakest link in the chain(the PS2) could handle. Things came to a head last year, when SE finally decided to start rolling out updates to the game engine and UI that the PS2 just could not handle and they effectively cut PS2 support outside of Japan. Even now though, the game can still run on PS2 as long as you don't try and take a character into new content areas.

Point being, TESO could have put PC/MAC, XBO, and PS4 platforms all on the same server if they really wanted. Thank god they didn't, but it could have been done.

Second over.

Never said they couldn't. It is indeed very possible and easy to do. The main reason they don't do that is simply because PC players are at an advantage in every way, shape, and form over console players. More accurate, full keyboard, more powerful hardware, etc. They once tested an FPS on mixed servers between Xbox and PC, and average PC players dominated pro console players because of the accuracy of the mouse over a thumb stick.

http://www.gamesradar.com/pc-gamers-destroyed-console-gamers-in-tests-says-voodoo-pc-founder/

All i was saying that due to the server split of platforms, each instance is its own effective game, and should be treated as such. To allow one subscription for all 3 platforms would be like one movie ticket to 3 different movies. It doesn't work like that. 3 individual games, so 3 individual subscriptions.
