Subtitles Support for ESO

Post » Sat Mar 22, 2014 11:57 am

In all of the ES games I've played, I am disappointed that ESO does not have subtitle support due to the fact that I am deaf and often relied on Bethesda to provide subtitles/captions in the game.

I would like to request that subs be added into ESO if however/whenever possible for verbal dialogues in game.

Thank you.

I remember seeing a thread about this a couple of days ago. I'm sure someone mentioned that there was an option for them. Perhaps I'm mistaken though. If this isn't an option and they're not currently working on it, they should be.

You have my approval; this definately needs adding if it isn't already a feature at launch.

from what I saw in videos, character dialogs are displayed in the screen and so for that I guess you dont need subtitles

However when NPCs talk to you not as part as quest dialog interaction, I didnt see any subtitles. I hope this can be turned on as well, since I sometimes miss what they say

@Yizuman

They are already? Or you mean when you walk around in the world and some npc say hi randomly, or greet you in some way?

From my experience even during main story quests when NPCs talk to you , some of their dialogue is not subtitled

He's talking about the people who talk to you outside of direct conversation; or the voices you hear inside your head, telling your where to go, for example.

You can get NPC chat in the chat box, but it is not optimal.

+1 for proper subtitling.

There is an addon called Wykkyd Framework which offers subtitle support but not sure what exactly it does and if it is still supported post API changes.

http://www.nexusmods.com/elderscrollsonline/mods/3/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Felderscrollsonline%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D3%26preview%3D&pUp=1

Maybe someone more familiar with addons can check it out and see if that is what the OP is looking for or if it might somehow help him.

You can toggle NPC chat to show up in your chatbox. Even those that aren't in a fullscreen dialogue with you.

Not the same as subtitles, but may help.

Subtitles would be a good thing for anyone I imagine. I can hear, but sometimes I like to turn them on if I am gaming late at night and don't want to keep the whole house up. I also rarely listen to the voice acting as I can read faster than they speak, so I am clicking past dialog before they finish.

Fortunately, at least at first, the important quest related dialog is provided as text in addition to speech.

Thing is, why does it necessarily have to be an add-on??

It's a no brainer that it should have been included in the game as an option. I know the Devs for the past ES games isn't the same as the Devs for ESO, but at least that should have been a traditional factor as done in the past games.

Something that's become painfully obvious is that not everyone agrees as to what's a no-brainer for inclusion in the client.

You don't even need to be hard of hearing or deaf to want this. The Harborage quest alone is a perfect example of really bad sound levels. Good luck hearing the prophet's dialog in many situations.

I am not hearing impaired but I think subtitles for the voiceovers would be nice to have. Heads up, ZOS. Make it toggleable.
