No Subtitles?

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2011 12:48 pm

I know that alot of people have posted loads of different things on here since the launch date here in north america, but one thing i havent seen is a subject on game subtitles. I cant find anywhere the option to turn on subtitles. This is a bit upsetting for me personally as i am legally deaf, so subtitles help me figure out what to do and what is going on. Some years ago gaming started implementing the option of subtitles, and my first game with it available was almost like a personal victory to me. For once i can enjoy a game and know what it is the characters are saying! Now and days most every game i have gotten has it already on there or at least a option.

If im not finding this option please help. If it isnt there i am a bit saddened to see a very good game visual wise and playability wise faulter in this very important area of subtitles and communications. Maybe if it isnt there, a patch fixing this could be possible maybe?

I thought it was strange that there were no subtitles..... Most games have them as an option.

Sometimes I put the volume down at night or something and it can be difficult to understand what the narrator guy is saying in the loading screens, lol. (Well,
even when I put the volume up, I sometimes can't understand him or other characters, heh....)

Ah yes good point there as well. Im guessing with so much innovation they did with this game they may have just overlooked the small things like subtitles, but very important for games and the people who buy them.

Subtitles would be nice. It's hard to hear what Chen / Monoeka say during the map loading periods, and It'd be nice to understand the beginning cutscenes.

This is a frequent complaint on these forums. Lack of subtitles is really not acceptable this day and age and ignores a very large community.

I'm on your side in desiring games to be subtitled.

Thanks I am hopeful they can figure out a way to sneak this in a patch soon, if not maybe try to make it a focus on future games from Bethesda, especially hunted and skyrim, both which i plan to pre-order as well and play on launch day.

I would really like subtitles and not the ridiculously small ones!

This is very unfortunate news. I haven't played the game yet (released tomorrow in Europe), but I have a poor hearing (and use hearing aids), and playing a game without subtitles is really no fun for me.

I had a horribly hard time hearing what anyone was saying during the cutscenes, and short movie clips....but had the most WONDERFUL/sarcasm time hearing 8 full grown men YELLING: "I'M RELOADING!!" or "I'M GOING TO PLACE A MINE!!" or any other fairly unreasonable thing to be YELLING IN FULL VOICE that i didn't care to know. i agree subtitles would be GRRREAAATTT for the cutscenes

Thanks for the link on skyrim freddo, i didnt realize so many rely on the subtitles as well, hard of hearing or not, good to not feel left out at least in that aspect. I am really starting to fall for the games Bethesda publishes, they are some great games, with the fallout series probably my most favorites. I would hate to not enjoy a game because of something like subtitles:(

None of those bad reviews did shock me. The raging in forums did not shock me. But NO SUBTITLES?? I'm shocked.
I am a german dude who likes to play games/watch movies in their original language, like many other people all around the world. And well, till today, i have troubles understanding spoken english word. :ermm: So i always need mah preciousss SUBTITLES oh my.

I just can't shake the feeling Brink is a bit rushed. A shame, perhaps Splash Damage had to release it because of empty pockets/Bethesda. Anyway, i am getting my pre-ordered copy soon and i would LOVE me some subtitles patched in soon!

I thought the same thing: why no subtitles? Still, there isn't too much to actually ready; story being rather bland.

Still, it is a standard in games these days.

If you pre-ordered, you should've gotten it. My gamestore said Europe's stores got permission to release only for pre-orders, but the pre-order packs can only be given out on friday.

Also, you said aids.
