Subway trademarks the word "Footlong"

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:08 am

Darn it. I came into this thread with every intention of posting an unsubtle innuendo, but it appears I'm far too late.

Me too, I was most upset when Raithen got it first post.

I also enjoy meatballs with my footlongs.

Don't the meatballs in your footlong get dry without the sauce?

I generally find that the meatballs produce their own moisture.

The meatball is the only decent sub you can get for $5! I'm assuming their "$5 footlong" ad campaign is the basis for this trademarking fiasco.

Maybe they should concentrate on getting spokespeople that don't svck?

But how would the spokespeople be able to advertise the footlong if they didn't svck? It's the quickest way of getting people's attention.

Dude, you almost typed Dutch there :) --> Er gekke jas is dat.
And no, my coat isn't crazy

Always worth checking though, you have to admit.

That plus banana peppers :P.

Hot bananas? That can't be healthy. You gotta be more careful when you make sandwiches.

For me it's a half hour ferry ride and then another 30 miles to Alkmarr, the closest city with a subway's :(

weird thing:
The Subway's in Alkmarr are clean and tidy, with appetising condiments displayed.
In Amsterdam the few Subway outlets I've tried were dumps :yuck:

Its Amsterdam, what do you expect?

I've been inside, but I don't think it counts.

I left almost immediately and never went back in.

Does that mean you're sub-curious about it?

Yes, that there is a pun, and a double-meaning.

Should the spokespeople eat, instead?

Don't the meatballs in your footlong get dry without the sauce?

Generally the sauce comes later. Of course, for some people its before they even start on the sandwich, but we can fix them right up.

I wonder how long Subway can keep hold of their "footlong". They're going to have a hard time and it'll be quite a handful for them.

I mean, "footlong" seems a fairly generic term. Aren't those normally protected against trademark or something?

I'd like to trademark trademarking.

Sorry, but I've already got a trademark on trademarking trademarking.

The word or the process? If the word, then fine. If the process then be aware that I hold the patent, and any use of my design will require you to pay me royalties until it expires.

To late, I've already done it, you owe me 25 cents each time you use it.

I'd like to see if you have the stones to make me :)

http://consumerist.com/2010/05/subways-lawyers-tell-rest-of-world-to-stop-selling-footlong-sandwiches.html

The world has officially gone mad as the Subway restorants have trademarked the worrd "Footlong" when it is used in combination with a sandwich. :brokencomputer:

Wow, I cant wait untill Gap trademarks "T-shirt" and I have to start buying "shirts with short sleaves that have a T-shaped form".

So, do you think a company should be able to trademark such common words?

The real question is: how long until they start sending cease-and-desist letters to advlt film studios and magazines?

What? I was talking about this.

http://pondcart.com/ncpumps/agora.cgi?p_id=11410

Notice how it uses "footlong" in the description. I used it once, and it was utterly crap. Why, what did you think I was talking about?

They will never be able to patent or trademark Footlong. They did not invent the term, they only use it.
