Sudden Extreme Glitchyness

Post » Mon Mar 08, 2010 10:06 pm

Hey there all,

It's sad news that I have to be back here so soon but I have a rather problematic problem. I've been doing the Mage's Guild quests and I was on the 'Seeking the Blood helm' (or whatever it may be) quest and the other quest that happens at the same time when I started noticing that the game was glitching. It started with part of my compass disappearing whenever I looked in a certain direction, then when I tried to open the door to fort Teleman it wouldn't open. I restarted the game and it let me in but in front of me was a solid wall! I tcl'd through it and found that random walls were scattered throughout the fort but I carried on regardless. Throughout the mission I came upon several seemingly unrelated glitches that were a rather large hindrance. I came upon the door glitch once more in that place and I also came upon a glitch that says that I always have to level up, but upon sleeping I get to choose which attributes to improve but there is no change to my attributes and my level still goes up. Half way through I downloaded BOSS and ran it, but that didn't seem to solve anything and seemed to change the enemies I was facing (it switched from necromancers and undead to golems and scamps). After finishing the quest I promptly returned to Arch-Mage Traven and gave him the helmet. I wandered around the Arcane University for a while and noticed that the textures on the cabinets was flickering black. Upon deactivating every mod theses problems are solved but they appear to be caused by many mods as whenever I activate a mod one of the problems is brought back. The problems listed are just a few of the many glitches I am experiencing, by the way, and there are more that I can't list off the top of my head right now.

The strange thing is that I didn't install anything to prompt these glitches, they just appeared suddenly. Here is my mod list:

First thing, you need BOSS for that LO.

Second, for running a heavy mod list, you need Wrye Bash.

Now, how many files total are in your data folder? There is a limit on how many ESPs, ESMs, and BSAs you can stick in there, and if you reach that limit you will begin experiencing graphics glitches just like the ones you described.

Start with the first two (those are required for your setup) and see if that helps.

Alright, I'm running Wrye Bash now. As I said in the OP, I have already ran BOSS and it didn't seem to do any good. I'll update this post with the other information.

EDIT: 87 mods, 77 of which are running.

Try removing all mods, including official mods, and starting a new game loading only Oblivion.ESM.

Yeah, I know that it's a mod problem, I'm just trying to figure out why the sudden glitchyness so that I can avoid it next time.
