Suddenly extremely long loading times and slow saving

Post » Tue Jul 22, 2014 8:42 pm

I recently bought myself a new graphics card and an SSD to experience the fabled "HD Skyrim". Reinstalled Skyrim on the SSD, got Mod Combiner rolling, choosing the 1k/2k option over the 4k whenever I could, spent a lot of time on my load order and then I booted up the game.

Here's the fun part; it worked fine for like 5-6 hours of gaming, and then I started to notice the game freezing for 10-20 sec when it autosaved with the Autosave Manager mod, as well as some sounds being delayed (like if I pick flowers it won't actually make the harvesting sound until like 20 seconds after). Loading times also inexplicably increased from around 10-15 sec to over a minute in most cases, even just entering Castle Dour will now trigger a loading screen that lasts for at least 50 sec.

I'm kinda stumped here, been trying to figure out what it is for the last few hours but really coming up empty atm. Any advice would be appreciated. :/

Specs and load order:

GTX 760, 4gb Vram

8gb ram

Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz

Are there any obvious offenders in my load order?

Where is your Bashed Patch?

Have you changed any ini settings?

Nope, I regenned the ini's and have only changed normal stuff like decals/grass etc. Nothing stupid. Also forgot to mention that when I equip a bow the auto unequip ammo mod will sometimes freeze the game for 10-15 seconds when equipping the arrows for some reason, really annoying and I believe it ties in with the overall issues my game has.

Why is the bashed patch necessary? I thought it only did leveled lists and plugin merging?

Use http://loot.github.io/ for your load order.

A bashed patch does levelled lists yes, it also merges stats changes. You're using multiple mods (and yes, some of the DLC's and unofficial patches count as those as well) which affect levelled lists. And multiple mods which affect stats beyond the unofficial patches (weaponsarmorfixes for example), so including those stats changes into a bashed patch is advisable as well.

From what you're experiencing it sounds like Papyrus is slow to respond or overloading. Try to lighten the scripting engine load.

I'm already using LOOT for my loadorder :) And what you're describing as being done by the bashed patch is also done by the merged patch as far as I know.

But yeh, I've suspected that my papyrus was a bit overloaded :/ Which of my mods are the ones that affect papyrus scripting the most?

Out of curiosity, why are you using a merged patch and not a bashed patch? At any rate, I still suggest you create a bashed patch; even if it's redundant.

Go find your saves folder and see what the file-size on your saves are. If you've kept all your saves since the beginning, take a look at how it's grown. With all those mods I'd presume your save sizes are going to be pretty big, but if the rate of growth looks sketchy (5MB to 20MB in an hour, for instance), your saves might be bloating. Which eventually causes all of the problems you're experiencing, like saving taking forever and terrible script latency.

My "main" save, which is my lvl 16 char is only 12.7mb atm. And the reason I'm using a merged patch is that I feel it gives me more control, I always look through it and edit it manually with tesVedit to make sure nothing is wonky.

Might be worth your while to enable Papyrus logging, just so you can see if you've got any scripts going crazy.
