Hi!

I have a suggestion. I find it odd how Preston sends you halfway across the map for your first mission. Instead, I suggest he should send you to Abernathy instead. The dialogue there would also be more fitting (bottle caps?).

Also, for further missions he shouldn't be sending you to the other end of the map, when you haven't even been in the area one way or the other. For example, I was sent to the far south once (forgot the name) when I hadn't even reached beyond Diamond city.

You can do a quest for Abernathy farm without going through Preston or the MM quest line. During my first playthrough I stumbled upon the farm when I was out exploring and got the quest to retrieve his dead daughter's locket.

Preston doesn't have a default. If you already dealt with some settlements before even meeting Preston, he sends you to a different location.

That happens to force you to open up new areas...by the time you get there you will have a lot of new areas to fast travel to...don't sweat it, go with the flow.

The First Step has always been Tenpines Bluff for me, which isn't a far walk and still within the "beginner zone" around Sanctuary.
