Suggestion for "Lucky Old Sun" quest

Post » Sat Jun 19, 2010 10:53 pm

The quest "That Lucky Old Sun" involves the 'orbital death ray' that so many people were talking about... yet on my first playthrough I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get my death ray. I reloaded the save about 12 times, trying different configurations, killing different people... still no death ray. Eventually I caved and looked up the Wiki...
Spoiler
You purchase the death ray laser from an NPC in Freeside

So the actual gun for the death ray is in a town I haven't heard of up till that point, from an otherwise unremarkable NPC...

SUGGESTION

If a player choose "ARCHIMEDES II" and activates the solar array, the quest should not complete. It should continue one step further to "Obtain the trigger for the Archimedes II platform", with a map marker on the NPC who has it.

Of course, this could probably be done as a mod... but anyone who downloads the mod doesn't need it because they already know where to go.

If you want to play "follow the arrow" perhaps a linear game with some pretend freedom like BioShock would be more up your alley.

Versus "The item to open this door is somewhere in the wasteland. You can either look it up on the wiki or hope you come across it and then bring it back here."

How about this: At the computer where you configure the power grid, add the option "Locate ARCHIMEDES II trigger." Makes sense.

Besides, let's face it. 95% of everything else in New Vegas is "Follow the arrow."

Except you don't need Euclid's C-Finder for that quest. It's more like a unique weapon.

But if you activated the Archimedes II, can you really be 'complete' until you have that weapon?
