Suggestion for Co-op mod.

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:54 am

Hey everyone in the forums. I was talking to my friend over teamspeak as we came in on the subject of the most amazing game of the century, Fallout 4. And we've played some bethesda games , we both have had moments in Skyrim and Fallout 3 where we just wanted to be in the same world, and just go full-out bandit mode together, sadly there are no mods for that whatsoever ( Atleast none that I know of ), so I just wanted to suggest that maybe you guys could think of making a co-op mod that makes every player able to invite his/her mates to their world, but they will still be treated induvidualy depending on their actions and reputation.

That's all that I really wanted to post, sorry if I spelled something wrong, hope you atleast get an idea of what I'm trying to suggest.

Thanks for reading :3

Bethesda have confirmed the game is single player. The won't be a co-op mode or DLC. They cannot add things after release either as it has to be coded in from the start of development.

As for a mod? Up to the community. But there have been attempts to mode in co-op to Bethesda's games since Morrowind. None of them worked.

edit: Relevant thread here ---> http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1512524-fallout-multiplayer-discussion-thread/

It's in series discussion, since Fallout 4 is single player only.

No that thread deals with multiplayer existing in the fallout game itself, talking about mods would be offtopic for that thread.

That being said, Zar0 you are far from the first person to suggest a co-op mod in fallout or TeS. It's been done (very poorly) before and has always proved to just be a waste of everyones time. Not only would the coding itself be incredibly complicated, but you would have to rework the entire game to allow for two players at once. Finally, the internet requirements for hosting a server would be very large for a co-op game the size of fallout. It's never been done by a large team of professional employees, it will never be done by couple kids in their garage. It's literally more work to make than an operating system and unlike normal coding, it costs money to make.

I don't really think you know fully what you're asking for. If it were possible to take a game the size of fallout and make it multiplayer, that would have been done with TES:O. But no, TES:O was never meant to be "Skyrim but with multiplayer" which is why everyone was so disgusted by it. It was an MMO in the world of TES. Thus, a co-op mod would have to redo the entire game making it a co-op game in the world of Fallout and it would feel nothing like Fallout.

I understand that games are 100x more fun to play with friends, but this isn't the right game for it.

Finally, I personally think this thread should be locked. Because, really, discussing mods in a game that hasn't been released yet is just silly :P

Of the multitude of single player games I've seen "mods" try to make multiplayer, none of them have panned out to be anything but a what could be called a "gimmick".

Networking mechanics and multiplayer connectivity is just not something that can be "modded" into a game engine that does not support them in some manner to start with. Pretty sure the Creation Engine (even the F4 modified version) does not support these things directly.

Don't get me wrong, if you could play ANY Bethesda game like I used to play Quake 2 co-op with a few others, that would be an amazing experience.....sadly I don't see it being technically possible.

No. If I wanna play co-op, I'll play another game.

I do understand what you're meaning with all that being said. But look at world of warcraft for example, people manage to host private servers on that huge map. I'm not trying to compare two completly different games here, but I'm just saying that both games have huge maps/worlds. Then why not allow people to open their own public servers? Wich specific player slots. I don't know much about coding but there is probably some sort of way around it.

But I'm not here to argue when I lack knowledge of coding, that's why I only left a suggestion.

Still, thanks for explaining and reading, DgtlRenegade and DevenTarn

World of Warcraft - Game coded and designed to be multiplayer. With all the relevant support and code needed for online play, servers etc.

Fallout 4 - Game coded and designed to be single player. Has none of the relevant code and support needed for online play of any kind.

See the difference?

After seeing the engine tweaks and the possibilites show in the trailer i think F4 will pave the way for the Fallout MMO but thats just my oppinion.

Picture world of warcraft as a single player game. It would be so petty. That is because WoW had to literaly limit the engine to make sure it is an MMO. However, Fallout 4 was codded with the gamebryo engine - thats a done deal. The gamebryo engine was never designed to be a multiplayer game and it could never be. Some say its impossible - thats no true you CAN code co-op into a singleplayer game, look at Just Cause. However, with the engine we're looking at, its been attempted so many times and no ones ever gotten close to a playable co-op game. The engine wasn't built for it and it can't be adapted for it either.

I'm not opposed to the OP's suggestion. The perfect Co-op mode would be akin to Terraria. Characters and world states seperated would really be the only option that would be fun.

That being said it just isn't possible at this time. Sorry Zar0. The technical limitations and software instability from making a Bethesda game multiplayer would destroy what makes Bethesda games so special in the first place. Yeah it is fun to run around with friends but not at the cost of interactivity.

Elder Scrolls, and Fallout games are single player. They are designed, and built, on a single player game engine. It has zero networking capability, no provisions for any variety of multiplayer, and so far, it has proved impossible to add such functionality via mods. The game engine simply isn't designed to handle it, nor can it be player-adapted to do so. They have been single player games from the beginning, and I don't see that changing.

Now, a Fallout-themed MMO is a distinct possibility, but, that would be handled by zenimax online studios, use a different engine, etc. etc. etc. (probably the same one they use for ESO.....)

Don't ever expect a multiplayer game, from a line that has been traditionally single-player. Too much would have to be stripped out, to give it a hope of running even on todays hardware.
