Suggestion for Shout System.

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:30 am

Hi!

I've read an article not too long ago about Skyrim, and if I remember correctly, it mentioned that the basis on which the shout system will work is not yet decided and is still under debate. I'm referring to how the shouts are becoming available for reuse, will they have to be 'cooled down' before reuse, or will they pop up at key moments.

Well I thought, 'Why not use an adrenaline system like in Might & Magic: Dark Messiah?'. In that game, you had to deal a certain amount of damage before instant, violent executions became available. I thought shouts could also work this way. When you wreck havoc for a certain amount of time, or kill x number of minions, - for a short period of time - you will be able to cast the shout.

Please evaluate your thoughts below and in the poll!

Thanks

I can't wait to go into a shop and shout fire into the face of a shady merchant. The youtube videos of how people will use shouts on NPC's is going to be awesome to say the least.

I think the cool down method is fine.

No, I'm happy with cool downs. i don't want to go and kill 30 goblins so I can breath fire or force push, when I want to do it for fun.

Major veto on this one. Not liking the "can't shout again until killing X creatures/dealing Y amount of damage" idea at all.

I want to yell at whoever I want whenever I want. Obeying the cooldown of course.

I think it should run on a formula so complex no one can really understand it. It would add to the magic feel of dragon shouts. Or mabey that would just be really frustrating, so I'm not so sure anymore.

Every time you hit the Shout button, a pimply Bosmer rolls 67 20-sided dice. The Shout only works if the product of all the rolls is a Fibonacci prime or if the product mod 193 is less than 4. There's also a 6.8% chance of the Bosmer's baby sister eating any given die.
