Suggestion for the developers: Please don't alter the level

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:51 am

After playing a good deal of New Vegas, I feel that the skill system is balanced well enough where it's not easy at all to become a jack-of-all-trades character.

This is a good thing, as it increases replay value by enforcing character specialization.

The purpose of this topic is for the developers that I know roam this forum to see that the balance should not be upset at all, no matter how many people may cry "remove the level cap!" or "I miss bobble heads!"

So please, don't go against your original vision, which has been amazing and pleasing so far.

Anyone who feels the same, please feel free to chime in.

There's also the option not to buy that DLC. That way, those who want bobbleheads and whatever, get what they want and you are not affected because your game remains the same, with the same ending, level cap and whatever else, and that's what you want, right?

Then the game becomes incomplete, and by lacking the official DLC, whether it turns out to be good or bad, ends up lacking in series canon.

This is not an option for me.

I agree completely. The only thing this game needs for completeness is bug fixes. A DLC that fills in the map more would be fine though.

Ok, I've removed the flames and the flamebait and I expect this thread to be conducted in a civil way. You can disagree with one another but the insults will stop. I will be warning anyone who indicates someone else is a lesser person than they for their opinion. Show respect or don't post. I'll be watching.

I have to agree. Right now, you have to focus on a certain character build and stick with it. It really is hard to be a jack-of-all-trades, even with the level 30 cap. And I really like that. If the developers want to raise the level cap, then I hope they still manage to keep the game balanced. However, that probably won't be easy.

Bobbleheads are as much apart of Fallout as the vaults are, imo I like collecting them its a side quest that you can or not look for them. I also believe NV Vegas should have came out before DC or FO3 as it is more in line with the story and would explain why the BOS left an area full of tech. I just wish they would make this into a mmorpg or just make DLC's as the engine has not changed and they use around 70 percent (not true figure but close) textures and meshes.

If anything should be removed is the stupid achievements or at least let you turn them off cause I don't care if i get a medal or kudos for completing a mission or killing 1 million bugs. As for content and such look at the mod pages/sites. I know that the hardcoe is a great change even though its not harder just more immersion.

Oh and don't let EA get a hold of this franchise PLEASE don't ever let that happen. Just my opinion :fallout:

I agree completely.

The only thing they should add as far as character progression goes in DLC is better gear + cool and useful perks from quests and such. Make multiple perks you can choose n such as to keep all characters varied too. Like you finish a DLC quest and you have the choice of a perk that helps your stealth in some way or another or you could perhaps instead choose a perk that helps you with crafting things.. I dunno.. you get the idea

I really don't know how you game to that conclusion, because neither Fallout 1 or 2 had bobbleheads.

I can understand the appeal of looking for collectibles, but I don't think they should do something as drastic as raising SPECIAL. Besides, there are snowglobes in the game, right? I've played for about 40 hours and have only found one of them.

I'm fine with them readding bobbleheads so long as those bobbleheads operate like the snowglobes we have now do.

As for a level cap...I've been playing for 60+ hours and I still haven't quite gotten to 30. I'm about halfway through 29. My character's a whiz-bang with guns, fixing things, science, pretty good at sneaking and picklocking, okay with medicine and meh with everything else. It's a nice break from the godlike characters I was always making in FO3. So yeah, I agree, fun as those god characters can be at times leave it alone. If I really want to play one I can use player.modav as I see fit.

Vaults have been a central part of the canon and games since the original. Bobbleheads have only appeared in the abomination that is Fallout 3 which deviated in both canon and design. It also happens to be one installation lacking design and direction from the creators of Fallout.

In other words, no, not even close.

Fallout 3 is an abomination, eh? Well, be thankful it was released, because had it not been released we wouldn't be playing New Vegas right now.

I think you level to fast quite honestly.
But, I suppose thats nothing a simple mod can't fix.

If level cap ever does increase, a mod for slower leveling may help there too.

As far as the skill points go, I would agree with that for the most part. At least so far. It seems pretty well balanced.

Yes, it is. It was a good game, but it did not stay true to Fallout at all.

I agree with OP about keeping the balance and restricting DLC. Even better, of course, would be doing away with DLC entirely and going back to expansion packs. Whenever a new city or whatever comes out I have trouble believing it wasn't removed to be sold later and too often game companies end up inserting massively overpowered stuff into DLCs maybe just to increase sales.

At the rate I'm going, I'll finish my first runthrough sometime next year. When the game's over, I can start a new character and play it again, and I like that much better than having some DLC that lets me keep playing in a now dead world.

The level cap doesn't bother me, I just wish it kept track of all Exp you earn after max level as a sort of game score.

Actually you got a cyber implant in Fallout 2 which is the same as the bobblehead just a different method and I give them Kudos for that as I always thought the cyber implants were stupid. Also why would you have a vault 13 outfit when you are no where near there and you are not a vault dweller. The 10mm is okay but nothing that great. I have walked all over the desert and got a stupid acheesemant for walking around exploring. The achievement unlocks are geared towards younger players i.e.. under 12 but they have them for a M rated game. Level caps have always been stupid if i want to play one character to level 1 million then so be it.

So yes I was wrong on bobblehead as the stat multiplier. :fallout:

I agree...you level up way too fast... :bolt: ...I'm level 24 and haven't even gotten the main quest
beyond following Benny to Caesar's camp.

There was a mod for Fallout 3 that slowed down the rate of leveling up...maybe someone will create a mod for FNV.

I managed to do it, and I don't see what is so bad about people being able to make a character like that if they want to.

I agree with the OP, I wouldn't mind if they added levels so you could get that warm fuzzy progress feeling, but without perks and skill points. Maybe allow us to move 5-10 points we already had or giving us a MAXIMUM of 5 per. Allowing us to change a perk every couple levels would be cool, I for one was expecting a little more from Lady Killer.

On one hand, I agree with OP. On the other hand, the moment you hit the level cap, a large incentive to keep playing the game at all is destroyed. So if the devs opt not to increase the level cap, which I could fully understand, they need to have some other method of rewarding your character for continuing to adventure. Like someone already said in this thread, perhaps in the form of extra quest-related perks, better gear, and whatnot.
