Suggestions to fix freezing issues on PS3?

Post » Wed Sep 16, 2009 4:17 pm

Hello all. I play FO3 GOTY on my PS3. I haven't had many issues in the past. Ijus started playing again after about 3 months off. Now I freeze after about 10 min of gameplay all the time. It has happened so many times in the past week I gave up. are there any tricks to getting it to stop, even if I have to delete the whole thing and start over?

A few possible tricks & tips:

- Turn off PSN
- Turn off auto save
- Turn off background music
- Clear out old games + saves
- Don't overstrain save slots, use a max. of 5 or 6 slots
- Delete and reinstall game data (not your save games)
- Turn off radio especially in buggy areas and combat situations
- Conserve the use of energy weapons due to goo & ash pile glitch
- Be careful using VATS in heavy combat scenarios especially if lagging starts to occur
- Clear cache: start up the game, press and hold L2 + R2 + Square until you get to the title screen
- When entering a new area let the scenery load for a while until the flashing disc light stops
- Make sure your console is placed on a cool, clean ventilated spot
- When lagging occurs press XMB and wait a few seconds

These are a few measures that will reduce (not prevent or totally eliminate) this freezing issue.

When your save game reaches over 10 or 12Mb the lagging and freezing usually gets worse and worse, no matter what.

Hope it helps.. Cheers!

I have done some of these. and will try the others later tonight. My only question is, what is XMB?

I meant the PS menu button on your gamepad to skip to XMB = XrossMediaBar in other words: graphical user interface.

*Edit* Below other freeze solution threads:
Freeze Fix for the GoTY version. Possible freeze fix and theory.

The L2+R2+Square button combo?

You can try it. It didn't work for me.

Here are a couple of threads that are an interesting read. Each person is trying to get as much as possible out of the game.

Hope those threads help.

I've just dug out my GOTY version of F3 as I'd 'beaten' the game but not completed the 'after ending' quests. Took all of ten minutes to remember why! Lag/Freeze/Lag ad nauseum.

So I came here to see if AFTER ALL THIS TIME, any thing was available.
The above is a very useful list, but it begs the question WHY the hell do we have to even do all this - the game should've been patched and these freeze/lag problems cleared a LONG time ago.
I mean, FHS, only 5 or 6 game saves! That's ludicrous! Don't use VATS in heavy combat scenarios - that's exactly when I want to use it! etc etc etc

I love Fallout, just finished FNV which sent me back to F3, but I can't say how disappointed I am that things just ain't no better.

But many thanks for the list - very helpful; just a darned shame you had to even make one :verymad:

No problem.

There was another solution btw, in the New Vegas forum written by a member called: " .::AleisterCrowley::. ", I think. He mentioned something about running the ps3 in safe mode. Even though it's New Vegas the issues are the same. Anyway you have to ask Aleister or search for this thread yourself, don't remember exactly where it is or how to implement ps3 safe mode procedures related to run Fallout smoother.

Thanks but tbh I've given up. The frustration of having to constantly repeat the parts I'd just done just took all the fun out of it - it always manages to freeze just before you're about to save doesn't it lol. But wanted to say I appreciate your post :)

Thanks for the mention.

If anyone needs it, or is just curios, link is below. Please keep in mind that although various solutions seemed to have fixed the freezing, they're people that have tried everything to no avail.
