Console command:

Placeatme BaseID ... get the ID from UESP or from the Construction Set. Be warned that this will lead to savegame bloat, and possible corruption.

Something else you might enjoy that doesn't even require the command console is camp hopping. Just fast travel from camp to camp - from one little bandit fight to the next. Don't forget to use crap weapons so you get more hit practice.

I'd say that was a lot better idea than spawning opponents. Plus you get the unknown...You might get a couple of archers, or a hedge wizard and somebody with a warhammer, the occasional dog...

Goblin lairs are also good practice areas. There are usually a good number of the rascals in there, and they put up a good fight. And they're a source of arrows and lockpicks, like the bandits. :)

I used to do the bandit camp hopping to advance my armor and armorer skills, and it works fine. I also used Minotaur, bears, Ogre etc. Then I found out that three or four mud crabs do wonderful damage to your armor, and without the danger of being killed. It’s based on the number of hits, not the power of those hits, that advances the cause - at least that’s the way I remember it. I still do the bandit camp hopping, but just for the fun of it. It’s a great way to kill 15 minutes. For blade skills, use a dull dagger.

I confess, I was inspired by the idea of camp hopping by tmar's character, Baa.

Years ago, Savlian here used to recommend goblins for this purpose, like glargg mentioned. At low levels (before routine spawnage of shamans/warlords), gobbies hit fast but weak and make for great sparring practice. A couple always respawn outside Fatback Cave on the Imperial Isle and outside a few other dungeons.

On PC your can download 'chaos mods'. These are basically summon spells which will spawn several hostile NPC's. I've seen them for Bandits, Zahmbees and Dremora. I'll have a look soon, and direct you to any I find. :)
