Sun half dark, half bright?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:34 pm

I've been playing the PC version of Morrowind for a while, but I recently decided to finally ask about a problem I have been having. The sun is half dark and half bright(normal) A straight line going across my screen divides the two halves and even goes beyond the sun, separating the screen into a faded side and a bright side(normal). I am not using any mods and I'm not sure what the problem is. Is anyone familiar with this problem?

It's like a split screen? LCD or CRT? Does it show up, even a little bit, on anything else? Does the split move with the sun as it transits the sky? Enough questions?

It goes directly down the center of the sun. but I can only see it when facing the sun. How do I switch between those? I'm not sure what it's currently on. Yes, it does move with the sun and is always going through the center of the sun. I went through some older threads stating that a black sun is a problem caused by using Vista and an ATI(I am using both), but my sun is only half black.

Well, you could try the black sun fix. It's only a single texture replacement, so it's easy enough to reverse if it doesn't help. Just make sure you save the original texture somewhere. The fix is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8188.

Thanks. How do I save the original texture?

I just assumed it would be in the Textures folder, but it's not on my system (with no mods). I guess it pulls it from morrowind.bsa when it needs it. So all you need to do is drop the new texture (tx_sun_flash_grey_05.dds) into Bethesda Softworks/Morrowind/Data Files/Textures. If nothing changes, you can either leave it there or delete it.

I just decided to try it(I'm lazy) and it's not working.

I had some issues getting the sun fix to work on Windows 7. Make sure you have a tx_sun_05.dds and tx_sun_flash_grey_05.dds file in the data files/textures directory.

I can't find those files anywhere.
