Sunbirds

I know sunbirds are magical flying ships, but can anyone tell me more/provide links to writing about them?

I got this at the Library:

"No pages were found that match your query.
Please check the search tips and try another search."

And then the Librarian asked if I'd been drinking and chased me off with a summoned imp.

The sun birds are mentioned in the 3rd PGE. They are magical flying ships that shoot fire from mounted staves. The altmer use them, and once, The Altmer flew a Sunbird into Aethrius itself! They all died, though.

I've never heard of these, though I do recall that the Sload had/have Airships at one point (It's referenced in one of the Preparation of a Corpse books).

Try [sun bird], typically English doesn't concatenate words unlike say German. The brackets limit the search to words that follow each other.

They all died, though.

Huh?

I take a lot of what the pocket guides say about Summerset with a grain of salt. Didn't one of the guides describe all these ancient and powerful monsters that used to exist there? Man, scary stuff.

"The expeditions of the Reman Dynasty and the Sun Birds of Alinor are the most famous attempts in our histories, and it is a cosmic irony that both of them were eventually dissolved for the same reason: the untenable expenditures required to reach magic by magicka"

The ships dissolved. I assume the people inside did too :/

Plausible in the Myrethic era, though, right? Wild and crazy stuff happened there/then! It's possible that before the Aldmer inhabited Summerset, there were ancient beasts and beings.

You should read that in the organisational sense. Read it as "Appolo project was dissolved because of the untenable expenditures of reaching the moon in a giant firecracker".

They got there already considering they brought back rocks: Their only legacy is the Royal Imperial Mananauts of the Elder Council and the great Orrery at Firsthold, whose spheres are made up of genuine celestial mineral gathered by travelers during the Merethic Era.

Hmmm...genuine celestial mineral.

I can but wonder if this mineral has similar properties to the magic stones from Oblivion. The Varla and Welkynd stones.

The Battle Mage corps could always use a fresh supply of these useful resources.

Fellow Scholar, I have a cunning plan. We shall board a ship to Alinor, steal a sunbird, and fly to Aethrius and back with the material, 'praps pick up Vehk and question him while we're there. It'll be hard, and we might die, but it would be glorious, and fruitful if sucessful!

I know of the passage in the PGE3E regarding the Sunbirds, but I've never heard of any actual lore or explanation of them than their brief mention.

Its worldbuilding, it doesn't need to be crucial to anyone's point of view. It gives the fictonaut ample room for more ideas, extrapolation, and such.

You know as well as I do what Mede would pay for a solid ton of magic rock. A great deal of the Welkynd stones were used up by the War College during the civil war. Bloody Nibenese rebels hiding in their caverns and their mountain passes. Let's do what all good Colovians do best. Make money and back stab elves. That's the way we rock it in the west, baby. Well, at least that's the way this guy rocks it. :mohawk:

Dude..we like, already rose. We got an Emperor on the Ruby Throne. I know not everyone reads the Black Horse Courier every day but come on man! Lay off the Skooma. If you're gonna be my Sun Bird skipper you've gotta have your wits about you. I certainly can't fly that thing myself. You better bring your own Recall scrolls by the way. This ain't no charity.

Is this your reference here? http://www.imperial-library.info/pge3/other_lands.shtml

Because I'm having trouble finding what your source is.

Well, if they are made than they are ships/machines, or not? (Which doesn't mean that they can't be birds...)

I haven't touched skooma in weeks, breh. And I meant it figuratively :| And I have plenty of wits about me, I just can't always find them. And aren't recall scrolls illegalised under the levitation act? Shame on you.

Thanks for clarifying. Now how the hell you suppose we gonna ride a bird made out of the sun, Galosh? I don't know about you, but I'll be bringing my resist fire 100% pants.

Well, to be fair, the TES sun is just a hole full of magic. Which when concentrated is light. And the Ayleids think fire is a (lesser) version of light. And I'm pretty sure people have talked about the heat of the sun. Nah, I'm sure you could fly right into the sun. Excuse me while I stand over there -> :bolt:
