Your body armor counts as global DT, including headshots, so helms are not as important as you may think

I tried to replace the reinforced leather armor texture with the leather armor text but the path is grayed out, unchangeable if I cant provide a specific .nif file (using the GECK)
Strange, normally if I want to alter the stats of an item I just change the ref ID and save it as a different reference, then change the stats of the new one to avoid changing every instance of that item in the game. Swapping models and textures for items works just fine for me, that Scarf mod I released was actually a desperado cowboy hat, which I then copied and changed the mesh of the new copy to the scarf mesh Tumbajamba made.
I've never had issues with this, are you using texture sets though? As in, did you create a new texture set with the textures you want and then replace the texture on the model in the GECk that way? That's the way I usually handle all new textures, so that's pretty much the only way I know of besides just altering it and doing a replacer where no GECK is needed at all.
