Superbowl Trailer?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:39 am

judging by their enthusiasm for the sport i think most of Bethesda's money is going to go towards superbowl bets, rather than advertizing.

also yeah it's not really comparable. Halo is a game for bros who want to get drunk and shoot some dudes - TES is a game for weird guys who don't shave.

1. Price
2. Audience

1. Way too high for a small company. Microsoft is well, Microsoft. Bill Gates could buy the Super Bowl if he wanted to.
2. Way too large, not enough of the people who count.

On top of that is the "embarrassment factor". Let's pretend you play World of Warcraft or Runescape. Would you like them to make advertisemants during the Super Bowl? You might probably feel pretty awkward. Halo is a mainstream series. The Elder Scrolls is not, despite Oblivion's shift.

I would say the Superbowl would address a much, much more mainstream audience than TES fans, and I'd say such a move would be wise only when the game is being released - no point for Bethesda to hype Skyrim up for mainstream fans who's just forget abotu it once they realise they can't pick it up immediately or next week.

Now, I don't know when the Superbowl is, but something resembling a nation-wise event could prove useful - but like I said, only when they're releasing or close to releasing. This early on, it's pointless - we haven't even seen a gameplay video yet.

I.E. it's still completely off mainstream gamers' radars, and it's too early to start advertising the game to them.

That would be absolutely sick if they had a comercial during the Superbowl. Money isn't an Issue Zenimax could cover for them if needed. Regardless I don't see it happening. It's not that it's a great idea I just think Bethesda has their own way of doing things.

I don't think dropping 1 mil would be a crisis for Bethesda, they could probably take the blow. I think enough hype would gather about the game to make the million worth it, especially since the fans watching the superbowl are the fans who still haven't heard about the game. You know what I mean.

I hope you're referring to football in general (soccer for you) and labelling it as european football, because if not...

Well, it wouldn't be a World Cup if it were for us Europeans only would it? (Semi-related - my country won it last year, woohoo! :celebrate: )

On topic - ehrm yeah reading some posts in the thread, I agree in that it's not quite a good comparison - Microsoft sponsoring Halo at a superbowl - dollops of cash on the franchise which is probably the epitome a mainstream-aimed videogame style (not disrespecting it in any way mind you ;) ) - compared to a smaller company marketing a roleplaying genre which makes big impacts on the general industry and videogaming community but definetely not as much as Halo/COD.

Dunno; methinks GDC and E3 will suffice

it is also too far away, I mean yeh people would see it and think its awesome, then they see the date and forget about it by then, thats why movies take years to make but previews are only shown a month or two in advance

No ad for Skyrim at the SB.

And over 20 people don't know what the Super Bowl is? Are you living in a hole or something?

There's probably a large percentage of TES fans ( me included ) that will definitely be watching the Superbowl. But there's not a large percentage that watch the Superbowl and are TES fans. If that makes sense....

Besides, 2 and a half million dollars for a 30 second commercial directed at a audience that probably could care a less for Skyrim, for a company as small as Bethesda...Wouldn't make sense to do, breaking their budget in 30 seconds like that.....But still, how cool would it be if a Skyrim commercial popped up!

On a side note, Go Greenbay!

What's even more bizarre is that ten people voted yes and actually believe there will be an ad.

I'm not sure a hole lot of TES fans will be watching the superbowl...no offence to anyone that does, more power to you. I don't see it happening.

I think you mean no offense to those of you that don't. Lol. You make it sound like watching the super bowl is a bad thing. And by saying people here aren't likely to watch it, you're kind of stereotyping them. I'm not sure how people who watch football could be offended by that.

Avatar was an exception. They 1st showed it during the super bowl then it was released at the end of the year. It wouldn't be impossible for them to show off Skyrim at that type of event but I don't see it happening because Bethesda has their own way of showing things off.

I haven't seen anything, but then again the only thing I'm actually seeing is the Argentinean airing, which has different ads.

I doubt it though, as everyone would be jumping the boat
