Superfluous skills

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:27 am

So Todd says they are merging some skills together(cutting them out basically), cause they are superfluous/'not needed'. What I don't understand is, what is the point of this merging? Isn't this suppose to be an RPG after all? I can't see how removing certain skills will improve the game as an RPG.. RPG-players love stats, skills, and stuff, I know I do at least. If they want to improve on the RPG part, they should add more, not cut down..

And now I hear there's a rumour that they are cutting out attributes to.. That is on top of the removal of classes.. WTH! Why don't he just go all the way. "Ah axe skill and blade skill, that is superfluous!, let's merge them to weapon skill! HAH, I'm brilliant, I just improved the game! Oh look at all those magic skills, let's just combine them into magic skill, yeah baby!" "Wait a minute, why do we need these skills at all. Remove them from my sight!" I R genius

Is TES turning into an action game, because some people can't be bothered with the R-P-G part?

Although I am not in flames, I basically agree with frantic. Businessmen rule, so games tend to go in the more and more mediocre direction. Actionrpg is the future. :yucky:

What he said. You're going to get in trouble... this is mega repetitive and just plain ridiculous. Useless/mergeable skills were merged... big deal. Attributes will more than likely be hidden, which isn't so bad, and classes being gone actually ADDS to the rpg element. You're questions have been answered, and your worries qualmed.

End thread.

Theyre killing TES and every time they take out a skill or ability a little piece of my heart dies.

The further they drift from Daggerfall, the one true RPG.

I was just playing Morrowind and was getting frustrated that I couldn't hit this dude and we both stood there swinging our weapons like idiots. I do not like dice-rolls! The term rpg is misleading.

MERGING SKILLS IS NOT CUTTING THEM OUT. THEY ARE STILL JUST AS MUCH IN THE GAME AS ALWAYS. SKYRIM IS GOING TO BE GREAT AND YOU NEEDN'T WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING. GROUP HUG.

What, aren't we allowed to discuss important gameplay features in here? There's no other open topic on this.

Because there's no similarities between swinging an axe and swinging a sword. What's the problem? you'll still be able to use the weapon you want, now you just have more choices. Remember how much it svcked to find a sweet sword in Morrowind/Oblivion just to be reminded how you can't use it because you're better with blunt weapons? Also, like others have said, nothing has been removed.

Role playing is by definition pretending to be someone else. Needed numbers and statistics to do this is just recieved wisdom from earlier role playing games. You could have a role playing game that is completely verbal, but then dungeons and dragons books and dice would not have been sold, and all rpgs since have followed this. In the original d and d, you had 6 stats, hit points, a level and an armour class. If you were a fighter, that is all you had. Seemed enough at the time.

As I said, some people can't be bothered.. Although Morrowind did have a horrible combat system that's true. What should have happened, is the opponent dodging the move with a proper animation. But they didn't have the resources to do that when that game was made. This is what can be improved with a new game, not cutting out features.

If they truly got rid of spell creation and the ability to jump high, then I would agree with TC. Its yet to be seen though, so I'll worry when the times right.

As I said, some people can't be bothered with the rpg part :hubbahubba: You basically want to be able to use everything whenever you want. That's fine, for an action game, not a game where one of the main focuses is building up and specializing your character.

Agreed, seems like they are dumbing it down for a more casual audience. Like the ES series doesn't have enough fans. I hope they don't "Mass Effect 2" Skyrim. id most likely be done with gaming if that was the case.
