Supermutant Questions

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 7:46 pm

I Have Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

And I am curious about supermutants.

Fallout 3
The vault 87 supermutants are yellow. Look perfectly formed.

Falllout New Vegas
The supermutants in FNV are either Nightkin (blue) or green. For some reason Nightkin wear straps under their upper lip. And some green ones do to. No descernable reason why.

So why do supermutants wear lip straps? Is it a fashion statement? To look scarier? Or because their upper lips collapse? Why, it bugs me.
It looks painful and unnnessesery.

Also, how many type of supermutants are they? Presumabley they were originally created by the Enclave. Then the Master made the Nightkin. And Mariposa made the second generation.
Which type came first? Vault 87, Nightkin, second generation? Tabitha in FNV says Nightkin came first. But that was with the Master. FEV came before that, it was prewar.

It strikes me that the yellow supermutants could be first because they were made in a vault, after the great war. Or were they in the same time period as The Master? Made the same time?
Presumabley they were what the enclave made all that FEV for prewar. They were the Enclave plan, anyway.

How many types of supermutants are there, I really want to know.

Which made which supermutant?
Why did they make supermutants? Originally. To make super soldiers who could resist radiation?
I know the Masters plan was to unify the race. But not much beyond that.

Can anyone answer me, please? :)

The lore reason is due to it being different strains of FEV which caused the differences between the mutants on the east and west Coast.

Actually it is necessary. I believe it was stated in the originals that the transformation process leaves the supermutants lip grossy enlarged, to the point where they must use the lip strap in order to talk and be understood.

It is not on the east coast mutants because this again, is due to different strains of FEV.

It was at mariposa that the first supermutants were created pre-war. FEV was then moved to Vault 87 just before the war to continue testing there as well.

Why did they make supermutants? Originally. To make super soldiers who could resist radiation?

The United States Government (whether or not you believe the Enclave to be the U.S. government is up to you) were the ones to create and develop FEV with the intent of creating "super-soldiers".

It was an experiment which they meant to use to aid in the Sino-American war, which was quickly grinding to a standstill. I think Vault 87 shows that FEV was also meant to possibly aid in post-nuclear colonization as well. Its primary purpose though, was the afore-mentioned "super soldier" plan.

Actually they had originally believed it to be a possible cure for the New Plague but it was then used to experiment with possible supersoldiers after they found out what it could do.

Good call Sebor.

That actually was its first use. I had completely forgotten about the New Plague.

Thanks. Everything else is right in that post (to my knowledge).

Hm... There are a lot of questions spread all over the place.

First off the enclave unintentionally made super mutants. The Master plans were to stop human destruction or something along those lines, he thought that he could get rid of human impurities with the FEV virus and then there would be no violence, and remaining humans could live in peace. The First Generation super-mutants were people who had not been exposed to radiation or airborne FEV. This let them remain intelligent and these some of these in NV are Marcus and Neil.

Not really sure about the Nightkin, but I think they were created with a slightly modified version of the FEV, they are supposed to be superior to Super Mutants in every way, but in NV not so much.

The second generation of super mutants came around when the Enclave was excavating the FEV vats in the Mariposa base. The Enclave used slaves who were inevitably exposed to the FEV virus. Already being exposed to airborne FEV or radiation they turned into dumb mutants dubbed the 2nd generation of super mutants.

That basically sums up the order and how they mutants came to be on the west coast.

On the East coast it is unsure how long the super mutants have been wondering around. They could have easily come before 2100, but just as easily came after. These ones are even dumber than the west coast mutants, but they grow during their lifetime. The reason they are so dumb is that super mutants drag wastelanders accros the wastes to vault 87. These people are exposed to large amounts of radiation and possibly airborn FEV. These ones are determined to take over the wastes so they search D.C. and the surrounding area for more FEV and human subjects

That should sum up most of the super mutants and their reasons.

In the beginning (Fallout) the Master made his super mutant army, the First Gen mutants like Neal and Marcus, and the Nightkin. After that, the Enclave (Fallout 2) excavated the remains of Mariposa and the workers became the Second Gen super mutants (dumb dumbs).

Yeah, and on the other side of the country supermutants left Vault 87 a little while before the Master formed his army (I think it was a couple of years but I'm only like 75% sure so don't hold me to it).

I wanted to go into complete detail of FEV, with mFEV and West-Tek details, all that jazz, but I'm tired.
