supply line to spectacle island?

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 7:28 am

I have the issue that

a) spectacle island only seems to get very few settlers (despite my awesome compound i built) and

b.) even bigger issue that supply lines to spectacle island always seem to disappear after a short while....first they work, then theyre gone....dont know if they drown or whats up with that...

any tips?

Current speculation is that setlers take radiation damage from the water. Ghouls are immune so you can use them.

How many setlers do you have and are they assigned? As I understand you will not get new ones if you have 5 unasigned. Assign them to farming, note that unassigned setlers will farm if needed but still count as unasigned

on PC, last playthru to level 100, I used 5 Provisioners to the island. no ghouls. never had a problem. But, I noticed NPC's like Preston (cuz I could see his pip on my map) would get stuck on underwater ledge a couple of times for days. he eventually got free and made it back.

maybe I had too many to notice late arrivals of Provisioners, but I assume it could happen to them as well.

I only had one supply line running there and it was never a problem. Also, Spectacle Island was one of my fastest growing settlements. The only one that consistently grows faster for me was Starlight Drive-in.

One of the robots from Graygarden is also pretty good for a supply line. Anyone radiation immune should do.

If radiation damage is a worry, equipping the Provisioner with a hazmat suit should help.

Spectacle Island needs a darn Bridge. You know that thing which connects bodies of land across open water?? Or a ferry system. Or just anything really. Why this was not available as a mission is beyond me..

My kingdom for a freakin canoe.

Even that would be enough. I play mostly without fast travel, and I love Spectacle Island. It's one of my favorite settlements. It feels so incredibly stupid swimming there every single time. There really needs to be some kind of ferry line between the Castle and Spectacle Island. It could be something that you have to build and assign a settler to even.

I only allow fast travel between settlements, so that at least takes the frustration out of it for me.

The line's work for me but I've only got 18 settlers which is lower than all other settlements that I've built up to the same level. I sent two there when I unlocked it which worked and two came as soon as I put up the beacon and all others are from that and supply line's. Can't really figure it out.

I mostly just use fast travel for the settlement attacks when I'm on the complete opposite side of the map. I'll allow myself to fast travel there and then back to roughly where I was at before. I started allowing myself to fast travel to Spectacle Island from either Warwick Homestead or the Castle though. I was tired of taking on tons of rads going there. And if you want to keep power armor on Spectacle Island, fast travel is basically the only way to get off of the island unless you want to spend 20 minutes walking along the ocean floor and getting stuck somewhere lol

You may consider investing in a Vertibird.

I use the Vertibird transports sometimes too. In my current play through I haven't yet unlocked them though. I will be soon.

What about making a bridge from Warwick Homestead to the island? Use "roof" blocks of steel (steel is more easy to obtain than wood). I bet npc will use that instead of swimming. You can use a supply line from WH to island. As for new settlers, they may also use the bridge made of "roof" blocks. You need use alot of steel, but it's worth testing. If npc cannot find the bridge, you use a fence.

Cheers,

Spectacle Island is a funny place. Its happened on more than one occasion that I'll have to turn in a mission to someone (raider trouble or clear ghouls or some other radiant quest) and the person will be out in the middle of the water down on the ocean floor just treading water. Its not even a Spectacle Island settler either, I once had someone from Sanctuary Hills down there.

If you lost a provisioner get a hazmat suit on and go down to the ocean floor, chances are they're paddling around down there. Wait a few hours and they'll usually find their own way up to the coast.

Personally I dont think its worth the risk. Any resources I need on the island I take there manually (strong back perk maxed) and store them all in the workbench. If I need to build at another settlement its no trouble to pick them up from there and just fast travel.

I dont think the build area extends that far into the water to link up those 2 areas. Will need to check that.

I've tried making a bridge out of wood shack foundations, it doesn't extend past the boundary line. It may be possible to connect the two if your meticulous by creating bridges on both points, from the island to the mainland settlement. But I highly doubt the build zones will reach that far.

Sadly the build zones don't extend far enough to do this. I may end up installing a mod or using the console to build a bridge from the Castle to Spectacle Island. These are basically my two most heavily fortified settlements, and it makes sense to have them connected. Whether or not NPC pathfinding would actually take them across the bridge is questionable though.

Could you build your bridge in sections, and 'push' it out past the build boundary? Or does it go red if you try that?

I use a ghoul setter to run my supply line to Spectacle. I moved him to the Castle and he's now swimming back and forth between the Castle and the island. So far, I have never lost that supply line.

I currently have about 18 settlers on Spectacle. Some showed up and some I just moved from another settlement, like Murkwater and Coastal Cottage, where you have to build a beacon. I build it, turned it on, then off and moved the settlers that showed up to Spectacle.

Until the GECK comes out that might be the main problem getting pathing to work right. You might have better luck using the settlement materials but until you give it a go and find out well. *Shrugs*
