Survey says Illusion least popular skill, One-handed #1

Then of course there's the problem that you don't really need night-eye type spells all that much in Skyrim. Apparently the Imperial Dungeon Oversight Committee has vastly improved lighting in almost all adventurer venues. And the other sneak perks, like chameleon and invisibility seem to be covered in the Sneak perks as well.

I haven't tried to find out if there's a "frenzy" equivalent yet, or whether it's legal to hit a passing stranger with one Those might bring up Illusion's popularity with me though.

Left hand: Pacify
Right hand: Thunderbolt
Always cast both at the same time, result:
Enemy stands there and lets you murder him, doesn't even care.

I would have used illusion a lot more if I had actually, you know, had illusion spells to cast in the early game.

It was until i was like level 15 or so that I made my way to Whiterun and picked up frenzy and calm and they only work on level 9 or less creatures, which is pretty useless when you're out of that level range. Still haven't found any illusion spells to get my skill up with and I don't want to waste gold training so it goes unused.

Man my latest mage character is prettty unpopular! Hes an Altmer Conjurer/Illusionist. I think people need to sit down and actually try some of these spells out first. Frenzy, fear, and calm are great spells. Frenzy creates alot of chaos, fear is great for causing chasing enemies to get off your back. Calm can isolate an enemy until you are ready to deal with him/her. Invisibility is still pretty not, not really the super effective version of past games, but still useful. Even dual casting illusion spells is worth it, as it makes the resulting spell affect higher levels.

Calm, fear, and frenzy effects are not command though. Command puts your target under your command like a follower. Ahh yes command...Good memories bringing the mudcrab merchant to my house in Morrowind.

I haven't actually seen them in game, but the Wiki lists them under the schools spells....

No surprise. Illusion has no beneficial perks like the other trees (regeneration and +% mana regen, magic resistance, soulbinding weapons, atronach) only silent casting which does who knows what. The main spells there are frenzy, calm and fear. All utterly useless. Playing master and Ive yet to see a situation where these would be better than pretty much ANYTHING else.

Hmm, i though illusion was a "cast spell and win" skill

Click on the spells link from that page, then Illusion spells. Notice the complete lack of Command spells on the spell list?

I guess people have problems using awesome spells.

Illusion is easily the most powerful school of magic in the game. I play an assassin character, and if I ever have to deal with multiple powerful enemies, I just make them kill each other off. Then I tell the last one to calm the heck down so I can stab him. With Illusion, stealthy characters don't have to worry about always being super-stealthy.
