Survival difficulty overhaul - please don't restrict saves

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 5:59 am

well, i know what you mean.

but self restricting is something a bit different to "not being able".

and since it wouldn't hurt you if they get the option, why be against it?

it's a simple boolean variable represented by a checkbox. nothing that would take up hours of the developers time... trust me, they worked with booleans before ;)

as much as i dislike some of the changes... or better BECAUSE i dislike some of them, i'm all for making toggles so everyone can have a game that he enjoys to the max.

instead of shouting at each other and claiming that only the own way of playing is the "true" one... why not work together to make it a better game for everyone?

it's not multiplayer... it doesn't hurt my game if someone else has a different way to enjoy it.

Some people simply don't have the willpower to not use this kind of features when they're available.

It's like self imposed Ironman mode in XCOM, not everybody can stick to it.

That's why they need the game to force it upon them.

I didn't even need that willpower when I played FO4, I was never saving, only on loadscreens to reduce the stuttering at the main screen of the game. So I was already saving on beds to prevent manually saving and get that bug.

The survival mode will actually make it a bit harder for me removing the loadscreen saves completly and only allowing it on rest.

and that's ok for me...

nothing that would work for me though since if i can't restrain myself to it, it clearly shows that i don't enjoy it. but that's just me.

just like there are people that like to add steel attachments to their private parts...

i don't have to share that "hobby".

i don't even have to understand it...

but i DO have to respect the right to do it.

and just like in game: it doesn't hurt me. i'll never even have to take a look at it.

they are happy, i'm happy, win/win.

This right here. Permanent death really makes you up your game, I learned that in Fire Emblem real quick.

Survival is supposed to be hard, if you don't like it, don't play it, that simple.

No.

I agree, limiting the saves is a bad thing and will not be playing on Survival until a mod is released that adds the saves back in.

yet another one that can't understand why "no save / no fasttravel" doesn't equal "hard".

i have no problem with "hard". i just don't consider sleeping hard... and walking around doesn't keep my adrenaline pumping.

i've said it before: the hardest thing about it is not to die by boredom.

But in real life survival, there is no "oh I might die, better save so I can get back into there" or "I don't feel like walking, let me just teleport to work". That's the point of survival, to be much more realistic than the standard game. I never said it was super hard and only for the elite, I just said it was harder and not for everyone.

and so opinions differ... isn't this great?

i don't play games to simulate real life... i could just do an extra shift if i want more realism.

if you want it to play that way, good. i won't try to keep you from it.

but you have to respect my choice to play it another way.

my only problem is with people that think their way of playing the game is the only one that should be allowed by the developers.

and "if you don't like it go and play just hard" IS exactly that.

I would respect your choice except you haven't made one yet. None of us had because the mode isn't available yet. What you've presented is a position in an argument; a position some share and some don't. When the mode is added to the game, whatever Bethesda decides it to be, we will all will have the choice to play it or not. And I will wholeheartedly respect your decision.

How many times do we have to repeat this?

We want most of survival mode. It looks fantastic with two exceptions. The fast travel and save restrictions. We're saying that making sleep saves mandatory is a poor idea.

Personally I could deal with one, but not both.

Look at it this way, would not having those ruin survival mode for you? Because having those mandatory would ruin it for us. A toggle for the sleep saves and fast travel would please everyone.

Honestly, those 2 options are 90% of the reason I'm looking forward to survival mode. Being forced to eat/drink/sleep was the least fun part of the new vegas hardcoe mode for me. But being forced to actually walk the map like a living person (or actually use the vertibird travel system) and having limited save options will make those annoyances worth while for me. So yes, not having those mandatory would ruin Survival mode for me and I just wouldn't play it at that setting.

*take 1 hour to go from one end of the map to the other*

*game crashes*

"oops, better start that crap all over again..."

The fun ends...

It's not really much about opinions as it is the way the mode was made. I used to hate the idea of sleep save, but now I understand why Bethesda is doing it. They want this realistic feeling to the game. It is controversial and many people don't like it, but after thinking about it, I think it's a genius idea.

great. and i hope you get what you want.

and since there is no reason that others don't get what they want, you should be glad if there were toggles to chose what you like or dislike in your game :)

I haven't had a game related crash in 3 play throughs. I did have one crash but it was hardware related and not caused by Fallout. This is a stable game, despite Bethesdas reputation. If you're having issues check your pc or addons. Also if I'm spending an hour traveling across the entire map I'll probably have rested somewhere along the way. But that's just me.

and because YOU think it's a genius idea everyone else has to think like you and like it?

come on... you're not that simple.

i will repeat: it doesn't hurt you if someone has the option to play differently.

But I never said that. I can see why people don't like it, I even stated that, I'm just trying to explain why they would put it in the mode in the first place. It just doesn't seem like something they would take out. My original post is based on what is most likely gonna happen: there will be no survival customization. And heck, maybe you'll try it and like it, who knows? This is getting almost as crazy as people calling me a "wuss" because I played casual mode in FE

I certainly hope save restrictions and fast travel restrictions are made optional. It would be a real shame to me for them to make a new mode with all these fun additions only for me to not play it because of those 2. That is under the assumption difficulty is locked. If it's not locked I can lower it anytime I wish to save or fast travel and then I can still have the fun additions without the tedious ones :D

Genius for restricting a simple save feature to resting?

I wouldn't go that far.

Genius in trying to make the mode more realistic. I couldn't quicksave, see how people react to this post, then reload and try again if I got backlash.

Personally I'll be okay with it as long as there are sleeping bags.

If no portable sleeping bags then I'll try it for awhile but I'm pretty sure the first time I get stuck inside a wall I'll be modding it out.

If modding doesn't come to consoles and I need it modded out I'm going to be a bit unhappy.

I just wanna try this new survival mode if I like it but hate the no saving anytime I'll just switch the difficulty for a second and save then switch it back and continue on my way.
