Survival difficulty overhaul - please don't restrict saves

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 6:01 am

Those who want it changed seem to be missing the entire point of this mode.

Exactly. This mode pleases the people who have been asking for it and that is (Should be) the demographic it is targeting.

One thing for sure though..

This Sleep Save definitely seem to bring more challenge to some people. haha

So challenging,,, it even affects some people outside the game.

Debate is about if this small added challenge is necessity or not... which will be decided by the developers.

I would have no problem with it being optional, I just hope Beth doesn't give in to the whiners and scrap restricted saves altogether. A mod they removes that feature will be out within days or even hours of the release, may not be as easy for modders to implement it from scratch. Or even possible.

The entire point of survival mode is to restrict saves in a game that is too unstable to reasonably support such a style? Well that's news to me. Here I thought it was to add challenge (diseases, serious consequences for chem use, having to ration ammunition etc) and increase immersion through the need to maintain health through eating and drinking etc. Silly me :D

Not seeing this "game stability" people are clamoring about. It's almost as if people are riding the past performance of Bethesda titles. I've had 1 CTD in 359 hrs played.

Ah but was that not also the case in previous titles? Some people go on and on never suffering a bug or a ctd. Yet others are stricken repeatedly day in and day out.

Arguably, decided by us via modding

Immersion really is in the eye of the beholder. I can see someone making the argument that food/water needs is immersion breaking.

I think that really is why this debate is so heated. The mode blankets a wide variety of aspects.

Though, the ignorant kids that come in here with their all-capping name calling sessions don't help either.

The whole point of survival is to be as realistic as possible. You can't save to see how something will play out in real life, so that's out in survival. And I sure a quicksave system will be added for times you need to cut off the game immediately.

True, however, the general consensus is that this is Bethesda's most stable outing yet. In other titles people were not shy about pointing out Beth's flaws. I can't help but feel that many of people's problems at this point are related to the state of their machines and not the game.

I am one of those who put Fo4 forward as their most stable launch that I've seen. I would never call it stable enough to support restricted saves. As for the state of machines well PC users can always upgrade this and that but there's a multitude of issues on both consoles as well and they can't be upgraded to overcome stability issues.

This is what I'd like to see:

- Survival Mode for the fatigue, adrenaline, disease, wellness, ammo weight, respawning rebalance, and damage rebalance changes.

- Harcore Toggle for save and fast travel restrictions.

I don't see how this wouldn't give everyone what they want. There won't be any new Achievements/Trophies for Survival/hardcoe, by the way. The consoles only allow them to add more of these to the game with DLC, and this is not DLC, but rather a free patched-in feature.

Bethesda just needs to focus on making survival mode survival mode instead of catering to the casuals.

C'mon, if there's a toggle, that gives you even more bragging rights. "I didn't just play Survival, bruh, I played hardcoe SURVIVAL!!" ...and we'll all know how super-elite hardcoe you are.

Those who don't want it changed seem to be under the impression this game is stable enough to justify the option.

So far, the majority of the comments aren't about the survival mode, but the instability of the game.

Why is this so damn hard for some of you to understand? For crying out loud, if it's a toggle switch, EVERYONE WINS.

Exactly. You have to rethink every step you do, instead of trying everything head on.

Read up on some of the Skyrim DiD threads, and you will notice how much this may spice up your game.

Well, this supposed trophy is something that's only been mentioned in the forums, and I presume that it has been mentioned because the hardcoe mode achievement in New Vegas... They have 1100 gamerscore or something like that already, guessing there probably will be no more achievements on the base game and a Survival completion achievement on the DLC probably wouldn't make any sense. Are there any other BGS games that even have game completion achievements for finishing on the highest difficulty?

I don't want bragging rights, i want a hardcoe experience and it takes all the fun out of it when you can just go into the menu and toggle it off to save and besides making toggles takes time to do and that time could be better spent improving other things instead of catering to the casual audience who want everything dumbed down because they are not good enough.

Thanks for proving my point of not getting the purpose of the mode.

I've had zero crashes or freezing playing this game. Even if I were to buy into crashs being as rampant as some want to pretend, it really wont be that much more of a hinderance than what already happens. This isn't 'your only allowed to save/sleep once a day... good luck noobs!' it's 'to save you sleep in any of the varous beds/cots in the map.'

If people are going 20 minutes or morewithout a save and something goes wrong thats user error and I have no sympathy.

Don't pat yourself on the back when I did not in fact prove your point. Now I don't know if you just aren't paying attention or if you're just flat out delusional but saying my experience has been without those issues then it must be true for everyone does not in any way shape or form make it the rule. One needs only peruse the bug forum for a moment across all platforms to see that it is in fact a real and serious issue. Now user error? No that's not user error. That's regular intended gameplay. The only conceivable user error in not saving every 10-20 mins is not acknowledging the issues with the game that could pop up at any moment.
