This thread is for discussion of the newly-beta'd survival overhaul. Features, mechanics, strategies, experiences, observations...anything EXCEPT whining about console/saving/mods.

The details released today have me even more excited than before. When do y'all think it will hit consoles? Those who have played the steam beta, what can you tell us that we may not yet know?

CCNA I combined 2 threads together on the same topic. This will explain why the conversation flow may be off

Oh my...

Put very simply, for any of you who can access the survival mode beta on Steam, I would strongly advise giving it a try. The difference is nothing short of staggering, and there are a ton of changes (much more than advertised). So far, I have started a new character, escaped the Vault, and I am currently in Sanctuary. And I'm terrified lol!!! I really think you guys are going to love the new changes. I don't want to say too much, because I think you should each find out for yourselves, but let's just say that making full use of settlements will be absolutely crucial for your long term survival, and the reasons for this are not even apparent until you start playing. Hope you all enjoy it!

For any of you who have already tried the new mode, please post your thoughts and first impressions below... :goodjob:

How's the bullet sponginess? I read it upped both the damage output for enemies and player.. To me that sounded like a good thing, like less bullet spongy.. they die easier, you die easier. But it would be nice to hear from those currently playing if they notice any change from the old survival mode or not.

Ohh man it sounds like exactly what I wanted them to do. Fallout is supposed to be suspenseful and require thinking, which the base game stopped doing after level 20.

a stroke of genius? really? i guess your game never crash because for the pepole it does is almost impossible to play since autosalve is the only salvation in a game that begun to chrash more and more often every pach they do

I am going to start a new game now, just fine tuning some texture mods etc. I think it will hit consoles before Far Harbor comes out. So maybe late April, start of May. Can't wait, i love the changes i've read about so far.

I'm so with Liam on this one - I can't test it as a console user but I think it will be a game changer.

I started discussing it on the, ahem, new forum, but it seems most people are still here https://community.bethesda.net/thread/2993 B)

So far I've only had to face a few low level enemies, but they definitely seem to go down a lot quicker compared to the vanilla survival difficulty. Having said that, I got absolutely owned by the radroaches in Vault! 111!! All in all, it feels so much more balanced for truly satisfying combat, rather than the bullet sponginess that we've all been used to.

i wont play it becasue is a bit stupid to play a mode that disable autosave in a game that crash a lot like fo3, it wasnt like this at first but after pach 1.4 the situation is getting worse and worse.....

Would be nice to know if you could do enough damage without putting points into weapon perks.

I wish this game didn't boost damage with perks, instead only effects like staggering etc. I'm hoping this mode could move in that direction somewhat

It all sounds good on paper to me but until I try it I won't give my opinion.

Definitely can't just run up on people now, at least on low levels. I turned a corner and there was a raider with a double barrel right in my face and he nearly killed me with just one shot, but since my own shotgun was drawn, I was able to return the favor. I also tried to stick up Wolfgang for caps and he just blasted me before I could even draw.

Never mind just sleep requirements, I think we'll all be holding onto every scrap of food we can get our hands on, including all of the pre-war stuff! First time I've ever eaten Cram in any Fallout game!!! But to put your minds at rest, the way the new system works actually feels very intuitive.

I haven't seen this question asked yet so here it is:

Will I need to start a new character to enjoy the new survival? I ask because while I am looking for a considerably more involved game, I've also been crossing my fingers that playing it on my main will bring the difficulty from "oppressive" to "tough but reasonable".

I actually started over, but I believe that if you do use an existing character, the game will treat it as separate from your existing saves.

I think starting a new character would be ideal, having a weaker character that has access to only basic equipment and hasn't yet had a chance to stockpile on equipment adds to experience.

Wouldn't surprise me if they add it, which will basically make the 'sleep to save' feature a joke.
