Survival & hardcoe mode?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:32 am

I just wanted to know if these gameplay mechanics have been considered.

Survival is basically the need to stay warm, eat, drink and sleep. You see it in a other popular games like DayZ and Fallout 3: New Vegas (devoped by Black Isle, not gamesas - so I'm not going to hold my breath they'll adopt it). Frostfall and iNeed add these and more features to Skyrim and are two of the most popular gameplay mods for the game to date. Has there been any word on this stuff regarding Fallout 4?

hardcoe mode is a little more exotic, but you see it in a few games Minecraft and Pillars of Eternity. hardcoe mode render the savegames pertaining to a single character unusable after it dies once. It basically sets the premise for some of the tensest gameplay known to man. Some folks managed to mod this into Skyrim also.

If both of these things make it into Fallout 4, I'm going to be over the moon. If not, I guess it's back to the long wait for mods to come out. :yuck:

Howard mentioned 'modes' in an interview when asked about hardcoe mode. What all that entails no one knows yet. Even if there isn't it will be modded in.

Hopefully Survival and hardcoe mode are both included. hardcoe mode is all I played in NV, and it would definitely be a step backwards for Beth to not have it included. Although it could be added on, and more in-depth than it was.

Going by there track record bethesda doesnt do "modes" theres only play. I guess its up to the player to make there play harder by setting rules to follow.

Although I don't like how much Betshoft can in theory just ignore because of the expansive modding scene, that'd be something to look forward to. I suppose I'll be keeping an eye out on future interviews.

Generally its not 'theory'. Modding tends to improve what systems are there, depending on the system and what is 'wrong' with it. Project Nevada made hardcoe Mode better (as well as a ton of other things), WMX/WME made GRA better, etc.

i hope it is modular if its in. I liked alot of the things that "hardcoe" (stupid name) mode added. I didn't really care about the survival aspect, it didn't really add anything to the game for me. Also having your [censored] companions able to be killed was just annoying. I did like the healing over time, and the crippled limbs needing doctors.

The ironman save game feature you're talking about seems like something 99% of people wouldn't do (unless they were really into achievements.) It also seems like something that could be just as easily self imposed with little effort

I don't like survival as you described it because the need to eat/drink and sleep are all too easily fixable and provide no real threat to begin with
I do like being able to freeze though.

What I hope for though is that Bethesda is truthful about there being storms that cause radiation. That to me is something that would provide a tangible threat; imagine being stuck somewhere or evenn multiple days because it's too dangerous to go outside... Then again being stuck somewhere for a long period of time does worsen your chances of eating and sleeping...

My issue with stuff like this is that if those were things that I wanted to do, I would do them irl. If I wanted to do chores, or risk 'exposure' I would go camping. While I understand that there are a chunk of people out there who want that sort of experience, I don't want it to be part of the game. There comes a point where too much realism detracts from the fun of the experience, and that crosses it.

I hope there's a hardcoe option. That's one of the reasons I prefer New Vegas over 3. It made the game more interesting.

I hope there is a hardcoe mode for sure.

As to this I agree that gameplay should come before realism every day of the week. But in a game like this realism is sorta important. You wouldn't just be going around killing people and helping everyone you bump into with something. You would need to survive. While I get this is a game and not real, Beth games maybe because of the 1rst person view or maybe because of the scope of the game seem feel like they are hand made for survival features. It adds to thre immersion for me personally

Agreed. The game is a fantasy situation that should be enjoyable and fun, not a real life survival simulation exercise that will turn gameplay into a tedious chore especially if there has to be an achievement tied to something like this. There will surly be mods easily available for the realistic simulation people.

I loved hardcoe mode in new vegas.

By far the most important thing is making healing act over time. Its such poor game balance to be able to stop time and heal yourself to perfect health 20 times in a row.

I really hope this will be an option in fallout 4.

I always play DID aswell. I did it with fallout 3, first playthrough and was successful (not impressive i was doing very easy, i just enjoy knowing there is no reload, much more excitement
