So Survival Mode is pretty nuts.

I'm 100% with you! I can't abide bullet sponges; I instantly lose any immersion I had up to that moment.

So with mutation did a little bit of test on a glowing mutant hound. he mutated every time I got him below 50% even when various parts were crippled. It may be different with ghouls and the like because you can blow a leg off completely and have them be useless but the hound mutated every single time, vats, nonvats, sneaking, nonsneaking, headcrippled, one set of legs crippled. I couldn't test both legs crippled because he fell under the threshhold soon after crippling one. I'll try and test that with something a bit stronger like a glowing ghoul or a super mutant

Oh sweet. Thanks. :D I saw a mod that did that on Nexus but I am not touching any of those as the early pre CK mod destroyed save games with Skyrim.....outside of texture and music mods of course.

I think I will try .75 and 1.5 which I think is between hard and very hard which would be perfect.

YW

I should note that these changes are NOT saved with your game, and will last only until you shut down the game. They will persist through saving and loading, but will have to re-applied every time you re-open the game.

And you can use the getgs command to return the value of the variables.

I really have to wonder how many people are lieing here...

On hard with an instigating .50 cal pipe rifle in sneak mode thats 102 damage x2 sneak x2 gun special. I can not 1 hit super mutant masters with a headshot. Thats 408 damage x headshot multiplier.

How exactly are you guys who are "so elite" able to do it on survival? They have more hp and you do less damage.

Its not a concept of being "better" its basic math. I am in no way saying that hard mode is difficult but saying you never die and that you walk through enemies on survival mode and have thousands of rounds to spair just is not believable.

There is also a switch on the wall that can be turned on in this fight (advantage of being scout oriented when playing). It creates some electrical discharge near the door. Turn it on, then run into the hall and wait for them there. I was able to kill Kellogg easily by flushing him out of hiding with fragment grenades from the hallway. They stun him for a second giving me about 3 seconds of shooting without retaliation which is a lot of bullets to the arms which give me even more time when they disrupt him. I did use about 3 stims in this battle so it was not very easy. Note I never used vats at all since I have only 1 agility.

At level 33, I feel that Survival will always remain challenging. Disregard what a min-maxer would say, or people who use modded sniper + sneak for x6 damage. That is not a normal player's build, nor will it ever be. I personally use this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5fanPvEB-Mand enjoy it immensely, though I have other guns for more practical use (and when I run out of ammo).

I just killed the Mirelurk Queen at the level indicated above, and it would have been impossible if I hadn't stored mini-nukes in my post-apocalyptic Victorian settlements. It took about 5 mini nukes to bring that behemoth down. It was still a challenging fight, which is good; if the game remains challenging throughout I don't have a problem.

About mutating enemies. I get legendary enemies at my level almost always now, they are not even at the end of a "dungeon" level, so to speak. 90% of Legendaries I fought mutate, including Glowing ones, Withered Ghouls, Deathclaws, Glowing molerats, and yes, even Radroaches.

The game is not for the faint hearted at survival level, don't let people tell you otherwise.

I'm not sure what is a "super mutant master" but if it's a legendary or has a star, i use a crit. If it's a regular one, a headshot can usually take care, if not, he is left with <15% hp and a simple body shot can finish off, if not my companion. I can take out two or three before they start getting wise and rush me. Then it's VATS time where I get to use my lucky perks.

Yeaaah, I think I'll stick to Normal. I don't wear the best gear or use the best weapons. I'm wearing Newsboy's Cap in combat. Rule of Cool, baby, Rule of Cool. Or roleplaying. Something. Combination of both.

Optional thirst/hunger -meters would be nice though.

Same here.

The Feral Ghoul Reavers Broken Steel -DLC added to Fallout 3 were some of the stupidest enemies ever.

You're firing at Reaver's head with your minigun and all you're thinking is just "This is stupid, this is so stupid." At least Albino Radscorpions were big, so their durability was a bit more believable*... they svcked too though.

*Okay, let's ignore the fact that albinos of any species are pretty much always less healthier than the average specimen.

The only one's I'm ok with being bullet sponges are behemoths, radscorpions, deathclaws, and the like. I hate when a regular human just absorbs bullets. The big beasties at least have the advantage of natural armor or just really really think hide. It's better in FO4 though. Most humans aren't much tougher than another unless they are wearing armor and even that you can usually shoot around or destroy.

Its too bad bottlecap mines are so hard to come by. Crafting one requires a lunchbox, which I have only seen one so far. I though lunchboxes were supposed to have cool stuff inside them. I opened one and got a sentry bot doll. I opened another and it made the party whiz sound and the confetti came out, but I didn't get any item. kinda disappointed me. I was able to pick up the lunchbox on that time though. don't tell me the lunchbox was inside the lunchbox! if they are an item to be consumed in crafting, how can it be so rare?

Survival is nothing to brag about if you just can reload once you die. Anyone who thinks it is to easy should try out Dead is Dead. Then you will feel the blood pumping again. And you will discover tactics that you never had to use when you just could make a reaload if you died. Things like clearing out a building before even starting to loot are very important etc. I did my first four characters DiD on surival(before they died), that is a little to much though and my fifth was on Hard and it feels like a better and more even diff for this.

These is my rooster:

//////////////DEAD////////////////
Steve
Diff - Survival
- Dead - Eaten by two Bloatflies -
Level 15 (22h 40m)
Outcast
Diff - Survival
-Dead - Fried by a Security robot -
Level 6 (3h 53m)
Jannet
Diff - Survival
-Dead - Stepped on a hidden mine under some leaves -
Level 2 (2h 22m)
Ola
Diff - Survival
-Dead - Eaten by a horde of gouls -
Level 9 (10h 38m)
Rodger
Diff - Hard
- Dead - By my own mine blowing up in my face
Level 6 (4h 43m)

Survival is fun.It just gets very annoying when you have to unload a whole rifle clip into the skull of a triggerman to kill him.

Seriously,i had all the perks that i could spend in rifleman and gun nut,my powerful etc etc sniper rifle would kill some human just fine and then booom. Some goons in tuxedos would need 3 .308 bullets between their eyes to go down.

Those fedoras must be made of kevlar.

Level 29 Survival mode.....the only issue is that ammo weighs nothing. But it may be a good thing because I go through alot of ammo. I die often and have to play using concealment and cover all the time. Even a walk across open land is a strategic episode because I have to have a defensive position for many of the encounters. Legendary enemies are in about 30% of my encounters and often on a single mission of a quest there will be 3 or four sometimes. The loot they drop is better than almost anything I can make so I have wasted points in gunsmithing and armorer. Every piece of food is eaten to round off my max HP because full health is vital as well as buffs to stay alive. Addiction is a way of life.
