[Concept Art] 03 Survivor

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 1:10 pm

Hey Guys,

Thanks you all the comments and feedback.
I enjoyed reading all of them and just wanted to clarify that everything that I been posting is very early exploratory work for the project.

More to come. ;)

He looks a bit too clean for being out. (Unless that is the idea)

The few marks look like smudges.

With the enviroment that is depicted around him, I would expect him to be a bit more dusty or coated with it in places.

I agree, it looks very clean.

Whats that gun? Something with plasma or "normal green goo stuff"? Image

That jacket he's wearing reminds me of the old Viper pilots jackets from the original BSG. money!

The gun is undefined. Doesn't look like a plasma gun to me. Maybe it's chemical sprayer or something. This piece of art isn't part of the weapon/armor conceptualizing stage. Just part of a series looking at characters in general.

from the three images posted, looks quite good, quite professional (who would expect less)

Just out of curiousity, is there the only one concept artist working on this project?

Or is Serg the Art Lead / director?

Just be interested to know what the scale of the operation is.
Also, is the project still in pre production stage? (probably wont be able to comment, but worth a try)

Aside from Serg, who is the lead concept artist, we know that some concept art was also made by Natiq "Defonten" Aghayev. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

No offence Serg, but I think Defontens are better. These ones are too clean and some of the things in the pictures don't really make sense; why is the sky purple, Is it on an alien planet? Post-Apo Earth in Fallout 1 had much clearer skies with a dusty blue kind of colour, it doesn't really make sense to have a purple sky, radiation or no, what kind of radiation makes the sky purple? Why are there people with 6ft monkey wrenches? Why is he wearing those huge goggles? What kind of gun is he holding? Why has he got kneecap-guards? Why are his clothes so clean for someone travelling the Wasteland? :ugeek:

Don't take it offensively, just some constructive criticism as everyone else only seems to be pointing out the good points on the concept art (or the bad points with their likings for it). At least make the sky a more realistic colour, I don't want to see the 'Outlands' sky from WoW in this, I'm sure many others don't either...

Hmm... not bad for him there, and this is the first time we see little near what design the clothes and weapons have. Again, the colors dull but not too is good.

The character design is really Mad Max, It looks like Captain Gyro( http://img21.imageshack.us/i/captaingyro.png/ ) in Mad Max 2.

By cons for weapons, not enough fantasy, is too black, whereas in previous Fallout, there was really any color.

Otherwise, strange that the character's approach is exactly the same as a screen of Rage ( http://img20.imageshack.us/i/ragescreen.png/ ) but I think that this is not done on purpose ^^.

Nice work and good luck for the future ! I'm a administrator of The Vault, the Fallout Wiki, and a very big fan of the Fallout Universe, since 13 years =).

Nice job! I am very pleased with the three paintings that I saw so far.
As leader of the fans of Fallout in Bulgaria I want to express our full support to Interpley and hope you succeed and make a game that is worthy successor to our beloved Fallout. We are with you!

Nice! Look's like he's holding some kind of fission gun/flame thrower pistol thing. Great gear setup (Back pack!). Everything looks very functional, not too much "Cool" stuff. Only complaint is the hair. Keep up the good work! Also, in your defense, if there were still high energy particles interacting with the ionosphere from everyone's favorite great war (lots of very big nuclear weapons), the sky could be any number of colors, at the same time, due to aurora effects ;) .

See the Operation Fishbowl high-altitude nuclear tests, specifically Operation Starfish for examples of this. It's all over youtube and crap.

I like this guy, he has a real sort of attitude going on, not because of his pose or anything, more because he looks like a walking armory. Pump action shotty over the shoulder for backup in case the hi-tech pistols break down, knife handy on his leg.
I love the goggles, reminded me of FO2 intro straight away! The sun can be bright out in the post-nuclear wasteland on a hot summers day. The jacket is nice too. This guy has obviously invested a lot of loot in his weapons, so I wouldn't want to cross him anytime soon (unless I had a big party or power armour of course!)
I'm loving all this artwork, keep it coming Chris!

Just saw this over at NMA.

It's very good, however [nitpick mode] I feel like the clothes should be more... I don't know... Tattered? Ripped? Maybe? I mean, surely no new clothes have been made in decades and those that had been would have just been bits of materials all pieced together...[/nitpick mode]

Still, very, very good nonetheless. War... War Never Changes...

The artwork is obviously great, but (there is always that part :D ) I think that out of the box approach would be much better. There are already thousands of companies that advertise their products in pretty much the same way, with clean-looking poster boys and girls. That might work very well for an airliner company or a new Mass Effect game, but I think that another approach would be better for V13. This guy looks like he came out of a photo-shooting session for a new shampoo product straight into a V13 environment. He doesn't look like a wasteland survivor.

I think that even though this artwork is great, it is the worst part of the concept art as it inadequately captures the feel of the game.

Best regards, good luck and I hope you won't find my criticism too harsh as I am looking forward to your work. ;)

And why would this be the case? Cotton clothes don't last that long, and the spinning/weaving of textiles is one of the oldest and least advanced technologies developed by mankind. Leather should be just as easy to make, if not easier given that cotton plants in the wasteland would probably eat you.

Haha, well I'm no expert on clothes and textiles and all that stuff, but its just what I would assume >_> War... War Never Changes...

Great concept art! His clothes make me wonder if he's from a vault or a normal wastelander. Image

Here's hoping for a Beatles-themed quest on V13.

O.O

lol i think I'm the only one who actually likes this with out reservation. i think the "clean" look works, for far too long all the fallout art has depicted the chisel chined "war dude." most of the really fun stuff in fallout was only accessible to "smart" or at least not totally combat centric characters.

i get the feel of "veteran surveyor" from this.

"He didn't leave the walls of NCR to look for a fight, but he is looking for .... something, and its something BIG! The last person to try pushing this pretty boy around didn't walk away, rugby jock he is not, but hes no pushover either. Woe be the bandit that tries to jump this book worm."

hee hee, that was kinda fun, i think I'll come up with a backstory to the other picks as well! (when i get a chance.) g'night gamesas. hay, "OC" ..... i got something for ya right here! _|_ (^.^) _|_
