Swapping from Steam Workshop to Nexus

Post » Thu Oct 17, 2013 4:43 am

So, when I got Skyrim for the PC, I used the Steam Workshop to subscribe to the Unofficial Patches to fix all the little problems in the game after the official patches. However, it has recently come to my attention that, due to size restrictions, the latest version of the Unoffical Patches is no longer on the Steam Workshop. I'd like to switch to the Nexus versions, since they should be more up-to-date. I figure the easiest way to do this is to simply delete the Steam version of the Unofficial Patches, then redownload them from the Nexus with the Nexus Mod Manager. However, the Mod Manager doesn't include a way to delete the files, and I can't seem to find a list confirming what files were added by Steam. My assumption is that I just need to delete the 'unofficial patch.bsa' and 'unofficial patch.esp' files from the Data folder, at which point I'll be good to download the Nexus versions, but I wanted to ask before I do so, just in case I need to keep something. Am I good to go ahead, or do I need to do something special?

All you need to do is to deactivate the mod in the launcher and then unsubscribe to the mod on the Workshop.

If you don't unsubscribe, then Steam will just redownload the files when you start the game, possibly overwriting the latest Nexus version you have installed via NMM.

I've already unsubscribed from the Steam versions, but the files are still there, so they didn't auto-delete. I just want to make sure I don't need to keep one or the other for any reason. I don't see any reason why I would, but I want to make 100% sure before I do something that might screw up my game.

So, I tried simply deactivating the Plugin, downloading the Unofficial Mods from the Nexus, then reactivating the plugins. Something weird is going on. On one of my saves, I have Morokei. If I load the save, I'm told the save relies on content that is no longer there. However, the save loads fine. When I check Morokei, it's only got the original 'Magicka Regenerates 100% Faster' enchantment. I know for a fact that it previously had the Fortify Magicka and Fortify Shouts effect, so I've obviously borked something. I don't really mind scrapping the save (was getting somewhat bored with the character anyway), so I'm thinking the best route to go would be to completely uninstall Skyrim, reinstall it, then put the (very few) mods I had back in. However, I can't find the option labeled 'Delete Game from Hard Drive'. I'm thinking it's the 'Delete Local Content' option; does that sound right?

You have to make sure that you've activated the new copies after unsubscribing from the old ones. Unsubscribing will automatically deactivate them in your launcher and simply placing the new ones won't activate them on its own.

Looking at the official launcher that came with the original game, the load order is all screwed up, despite the fact that I used the NMM to fix the load order. I originally simply unsubscribed, but then played while unsubscribed. I didn't notice any issues, but I may have done that yesterday, when I started a completely new character, so the changes may not have been apparent (though I did crash multiple times on the new character, which is also new). Today, I verified that I am unsubscribed from the Steam Workshop versions (I am), deactivated the Unofficial Patches in the 'Plugins' tab of the NMM, then downloaded the Nexus versions. These downloaded to the 'Mods' tab. I activated the mods, and said 'Yes to All' when asked to replace existing files. Loading up the game, Morokei had it's vanilla enchantment, so I closed the game, reactivated the Unofficial Patches in the 'Plugins' tab, then launched the game again. Still the vanilla enchantment. At this point, I'm saying 'Screw it; let's start fresh', so I just need to know how to completely uninstall Skyrim from my computer so I can reinstall it. I don't have a huge list of mods, so it will be simple to get everything again via NMM once I'm starting off from a clean slate.
