sweet optimism and bitter pessemism

I just hope this game doesn't feel like TES V: Mass Effect.

No mysticism, fewer spells, no attributes, less skills, merged armor, no spellmaking, limited speed, no parrying, no item degrading, overly flashy abilities, no birthsigns, no classes, no simultaneous item comparison in inventory.... there are a few things about Skyrim which are disappointing to me.

I keep my expectations realistic. I know what type of games these people make and how much effort they put into them. It is unfortunate that even with as much hard work as is poured into it, Skyrim will need many mods to suit my desires.

So you want overly flashy abilities for Skyrim to be good?

I guess thats where our Opinions Differ. Dice Rolls are the Core of the RPG

If I clearly swing a lethal weapon at you, it is going to damage you no matter what. I really don't want to sit there and wait for the enemy to die when I know he should be dead, because I'm swinging a sword at him.

I disagree. Larp dont use dicerolls for hit and that is defintly rpg's. RPG mean Role Playing Game. You play a role in a game. Sort of like an actor. Thats what defines it. Or it would be called Dice Playing Game.

Jah Im a bitter pessimist only here to cling to the last vestiges of what used to be the greatest game in the world.
I dont know whats left of it though.
Its certainly not anything written on Morrowind's game box.

I suppose Skyrim is going to be a highly enjoyable action/ adventure.
It cannot possibly be an RPG.

It's an RPG. It's official classified as that and will likely be a nominee for every RPG award for 2011 alongside Witcher2 and Dark Souls - while having more RPG elements than both of those games combined.

Furthermore 99% of people who play it/review it will think of it as an RPG - because it is one. No matter what you think, it will always factually be an RPG.

A mixture of both.

I like what they've done with the leveling system, the perk system, and combat (well, some of it); but I'm really disappointed by a number of aspects. Namely, I was expecting better graphics, animation, a more robust magic system (instead of the cool looking but simplified version we've been given), and for the game to not hold my hand every step of the way.

I know that I'll have many groans of delight and dismay while playing Skyrim. Hopefully the pleasure outweighs the pain.

It's certainly not more of an RPG than, say, Mass Effect (the first one). But since I managed to accept that, I'm looking forward to a great adventure in the world of The Elder Scrolls. :)

Which is a central component to Oblivion and Skyrim. Making it, even under your definition, an RPG.

Has it been confirmed that Reflect Spell, Reflect Damage, and Resist Magic are in?

Not many spells have been confirmed, but it has been confirmed that Mysticism spells have been spread out amongst the other 5 Magic schools.

No, like you probably already know, they just said that they have been dispersed throughout the other skill trees.

One thing I did see was a protect spell in restoration when the guy had his menu open. The character only had a heal over time and a protect spell . I would guess that the Resist Magic spell would be in restoration based on that. Not sure about the other two.

Edit: He also had a fire spell. He had a window open that showed a list of all of his spells. The two I listed were under the restoration section of that screen.

Some mysticism spells, or all mysticism spells? I've already seen that Telekinesis is in (I never had use for it), but I want to know if the actual significant mysticism spells are in.

I started hiding from this place around idea's and suggestions thread 184, or so, and in CD long enough to see the Skyrim announcement, picking up a few details here and there.

Almost more importantly is how many different areas can people see this game failing?

Well, obviously, there are a lot of threads with people whining about what's wrong with the game. I agree with some stuff, but it's nothing that can't be overcome with some modding. :) Fail=Steam DRM, and other misc annoyances like that.

this is why we do not have TES Daggerfall Return of Numidium or TES morrowind Dagoth Returns. kk?

I think you forgot a "k" there...

The difference between you and your brother is that you are bringing your opinion into grading your students papers. I don't know if he does this also, but he shouldn't.

What you are doing is the equivalent of the following:
If someone wrote a paper in your brothers class that discussed the failing of Capitalism and its effects on society, and the paper was excellently written and well argued, your brother the teacher should give a good grade. What you are doing is giving a bad grade based on nothing but pure opinion. You don't like the idea that capitalism has faults and so too should everyone else.

It's not that your standard is high, it's that your list of requirements for it to be good are your own.

lol you must be a stupid socialist if you think captalism and free market and no stupid government telling me how to run my life is a failure on society.

I'm still entirely optimistic. It's like the majority of people at these forums have never even PLAYED an ES game. To look at the way everyone jumps to negative conclusions based off the relatively small amount of information that has been released (and it is quite a small amount of information, just being re-released over and over) you would assume that nobody has ever experienced the sheer awesomeness of and Elderscrolls game. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Beth has never disappointed me before, I hardly think they are going to start now.
