[RELzBeta] SWG's Skies V.IV Now In Public Beta

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 7:30 am

i tried to test the new moons but i have some troubles finding them, strangely i could only see it around 4-6 a.m. but i havent tried for long.
iam using mgeXE 0.8.14 with atmospheric scattering wich has some problems with vanilla moons, and your moons too:

http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1387/mgescreenshot1c.jpg
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2118/mgescreenshot4y.jpg

if you could give a hint when i can see the moon in the night sky, i could try again. i allready saw one night moon yesterday but didnt map the screenshot key, but i remember i was much to large (~50% less size would be better).

all the ideas in this thread are awesome, pleeeeease keep it up and release this one soon /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
but i think you will have one hard time to beat the vanilla skies and stars - i think they allways looked pretty pretty for my taste.

I took a few screens last night of these new moons, you can check them out http://s676.photobucket.com/albums/vv121/hamburgermustache/Morrowind/

Ah, I see the problem, it appears the moons don't actually use transparency in the fashion that you can see through them to the stars (which they should), but instead just display a pre-selected colour for the shadows, those being either the sky or fog colour. I will need to further examine this issue and see if I can edit the moon meshes to fix it.

The problem is clearly seen in these two shots (thanks chris.arceo): http://s676.photobucket.com/albums/vv121/hamburgermustache/Morrowind/?action=view¤t=MGEScreenshot051.jpg, http://s676.photobucket.com/albums/vv121/hamburgermustache/Morrowind/?action=view¤t=MGEScreenshot011.jpg

I do agree, they are nice, this time around I'm going to be taking a lot more inspiration from them. The guardian constellations (mage, warrior, thief) will be in their right places, and all the other constellations will also make appearances around the sky, in more lore-friendly places. Plus I'm going to put a bit of a purplish subtle background nebula near the horizons, to make it feel more like the vanilla game, plus I'll include new nebulae I will be creating from scratch. Oh, and fully unique skies plus high resiness, that'll definitely take the battle to the next level.

I will! I'm sure going to have fun making this, and if I get even a quarter of all my proposed ideas working, that'll be awesome. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I just got my Morrowind installed again too, so I'll be able to test this more extensively (I'll still post betas, since it'll be easier for me to spot and fix problems). Now all I have to do is figure out how to make MGE work...

My intention is to try MGE XE, but you need to get MGE rev 0.178 working before you can upgrade, and it refuses to work for me. /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

As to this mod, my intention right now is to get the moons working properly and then start working on the skies, if you can find me a 3d model of a sphere pre-uv mapped to a cylindrical based texture, that would be a godsend, Blender can't seem to map them properly, it always shifts the vertices on the uv at the top slightly to the right.

Testing Horizon Clouds, I'm going to try to make them less subtle: http://i53.tinypic.com/68hr1l.jpg, http://i51.tinypic.com/2guxxxh.jpg

I agree with you, those are default Morrowind colours with MGE XE affecting due to atmospheric scattering and such, I will probably end up making my own colour set though.

lol, MOAR is meant to be spelled like that, it's a humorous misspelling which is internet slang. /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Cool video. Could probably do to be less curved-looking, though.

Also, I don't remember Morrowind being that huge.

When you're on the ground it looks worryingly curved on the horizon. No other complains.

Will the mod require MGE?

It's not really as big as it looks, the exponential fogging makes it look bigger, in that video, I only have distant land set to 20 cells, my usual setting, if it's set to 80, you can see absolutely everything. Oh, your also seeing Tamriel Rebuilt maps one and two in the video, if you look closely, you can see the Inner Sea separating Vvardenfell from the mainland.

Thanks. /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Completely agree, I need to work on the mesh a lot more, as I said in the video description.

The mod won't require MGE, but I strongly recommend that you use it for such features as atmospheric scattering, exponential fogging, and other such sky related features.

Progress Report! And new beta stuff!

-New Horizon Clouds, now with better cloud/fog transitioning.
-Fixed the moons not being translucent, thanks to Hrnchamd for pointers! /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
-Made some interesting discoveries:
-The cloud texture originally repeated itself 25 times across the sky, 52. So knowing that, I fixed the cloud movement speeds.
-Knowing the amount of repeats, I now know just how detailed to make my new sky textures, prepare for awesomeness.

EDIT: To fix the cloud movement speeds, go into your INI, and divide every cloud movement speed setting by 5, that should do it.

No one has replied? Strange... The moons are looking wonderful on my PC, I'll see if I can post some screenshots and share them. I haven't looked closely at the skies so I can't say whether or not there are any visible seams.

Is there any way to determine weather in cells rendered by MGE, and show that in game, like have a storm approaching from the distance, or see the smoke rising from Red Mountain in the distance?
