[RELz] SWG's Skies v3

Post » Wed Jan 27, 2010 9:57 pm

Alright, to anyone wanting to use this mod without Bloodmoon, download the patch and rename "sky_night_02.nif" to "sky_night_01.nif" and use it to replace the "sky_night_01.nif" I'd included. That should make the night skies work.

Great to see you're still supporting this release. Good job buddy. :coolvaultboy:

Please, somebody, I need help. I have tried so hard to find the download link on the 2share site, and it does not exist. I am on the verge of tears with frustration here. Can anybody help me, either by telling me what the [censored] they expect me to click, or providing me with a mirror that is not so God damned ridiculous?

Catoblepas posted http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html that worked for me. Ctrl F "sky" and you'll find it.

The link isn't that hard to find, it's on the bottom of the page.

In trying to download the fix the link does not work.

I've tried in Firefox and IE and both take me to some 2shared site where the file is named but there is no link that works to get the file.

what am I doing wrong?

[EDIT] Yeah so even with version 3 I seem to be having three large holes in the sky ... I assume that the sky fix is for that as they are not there in the daytime.

I've tried every way I can think to get the file and no luck.

Ohh there it was!

Thanks. that was not easy to find.

Even using Down Them All (firefox plugin) it said there was nothing to DL.

OK next problem ... hmmm ... well first let me confirm - if I have three large holes in the sky then I indeed do need the sky fix - right?

If so then this sky fix is about 4 times smaller in size than the sky mesh it is replacing - the result is that the sky is complete and whole but now the stars all look amplified, larger, and closer - definitely not a winning point.

So is that how it is? Either a full over enlarged set of stars or a sky with holes in it?

Can I see a screenshot to the problem? I haven't heard of your issue before...

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark, can it possibly be that you deleted the old nightsky along with it's texture and now the new mesh is loading the old night sky texture, since that texture is much smaller and it would try to size it up to the new mesh it would probably make it look like you described.

I can't download the night sky fix from 2shared. Some other guy and myself reported this problem on PES, but since no one responded I'll post it here to. Can you PLEASE upload the fix on PES/Nexus? It's such a small file, I don't see the point uploading it on 2shared while all the other files are available for download at PES/Nexus.

Thanks,
Pushkatu!

SWG-

Oh I need to apologize - I forgot that I had installed Vurts alterations for your weather and they are indeed amplified and out of focus - even with his shader recommendations and distant LOD blur off.

sorry wrong conclusion on my part. But looking at these replacers in PAINT.Net they look clear - perhaps it is because they are not linked properly to a mesh?
I don't know.

Pushaktu - see this post for instructions.

such a small file though - why not include in main download.

Dammit Forgot link.

The http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1021863&view=findpost&p=15712662 by Tattoed on the previous page where I asked the same question.

[edit] now linked

[edit 2] and so far I'm not liking any of the stars replacers from any weather/star mod. either they are too busy or it looks like they are tiled and I see the same constellations 3-4 times across the sky.

Thanks Psymon and LOL.

For such a small file you should realy include it with the main file to avoid problems like this in the future or at least upload it on PES.

Thanks,
Pushkatu

It's far too late for me to include in the main file, the main file is quite large and took me FOREVER to upload to both Nexus and PES, if I wanted to include it, I'd have to add it to the zip, then delete the main files on both PES and Nexus temporarily, and then take forever to upload them again, with no guarantee it'll even work.

EDIT: Say WHAT?? :o I just checked out the file on PES and I just realized I got Hall of Fame, omg! :D

Congrats! Well deserved. As for the file, is there a reason you can't just upload it to PES? By itself, alongside the main file I mean - it would look the same as it does now, but send you to a fileplanet downlaod rather than whatever it uses now. I am relatively sure that is possible, from what little experienxe I have had with uploading Better Skulls, but perhaps I am mistaken?

Yeah, I suppose, I'll do it when I get the chance then.

Hey, just registered to ask a technical question about the mod. Just getting back into Morrowind for the first time in four years or so, so I downloaded the enhancement off of PES and the "Night_sky_2" fix from BTB. I installed both as suggested, but during both the night AND day the sky is this big ugly blob-dome, with a clear band halfway to the horizon and then more pea-soup sky at the horizon. The sky that I can see has absolutely no texture to it whatsoever, so it appears that somewhere along the way something messed up in installation as even overcast skies should have texture to them.

Installation order, if it will help: Downloaded package from PES & BTB. Put all ".DDS" files in "data files\textures" (the readme was pretty clear about not installing them as "data files\skies\textures"). Likewise, I installed the ".NIF" files to "data files\meshes". I then extracted "night_sky_2.nif" from BTB's patch and overrode that file in "data files\meshes". Started playtesting and noticed issues. Reinstallation did not help.

On the bright side, the sun installed properly. :shifty: (looks nice, BTW)

Nice, I'll definetly add this to my game (unless I am forced to disable distant blur, in that case then no)

Your video card probably doesn't support the large textures.

I found out what my graphics problems are. I reduced the size of the DDS files from 4096x4096 to 2048x2048, same compression format (DXT3). Threw up a few of the good weather textures and, lo-and-behold, we have clouds. Now I'm in the process of resizing any DDS files to that resolution.

This brings up another question; would you consider releasing a version of your skies in an intermediate resolution like 2048x2048? My laptop, for example, uses a slightly older ATI chip (x600) which is more than capable of running Morrowind with full detail (if not with the MGE extenders), yet has some limitations when it comes to maximum texture size, and in my research of this issue it seems that some other people trying to run this pack have had similar issues. I am fortunate enough to have a copy of Photoshop CS3 in order to run nVidia's DDS plugins, however others might not have the resources or technical inclination to edit these files. Such a distribution would be relatively small to release, as well, probably running in at around 25-35Mb.

LordHaHa

EDIT @SWG9875: Ten minutes to write a post, and I missed your reply. Sorry about that! Anyway, still curious about the interest or acceptability of an intermediate resolution release.

I don't have my computer ATM, so it's out of the question for now, but if you could send me those resized textures, then I could upload them.

Sure. What would be the best way to send these files to you?
