[RELz] SWG's Skies v3

Post » Thu Jan 28, 2010 3:56 am

Just out of curiosity, would me removing the night sky meshes/textures inadvertently mess up anything else added by this mod?

To not install the night skies, just don't use the night sky related meshes and remove the textures "tx_stars" and "tx_sky_blank". Although your really missing out... I made sure this was lore freindly and everything, the night skies were probably the part of the mod I worked the most on...

Believe me I wanted to use them, but the problem was that they didn't turn out right for me (like what someone else posted screenshots of earlier - all blocky with spaces missing). Is that just an easy to fix glitch? If so I'm all over that =o

Well I had no idea this was going to happen, I'm using all the meshes in the pack without issues.

Anyways, to all that had issues with the night sky, could you try http://www.2shared.com/file/6922846/3ce2f1b7/sky_night_02.html and report what happens? Some screenshots would be nice too.

Download this mesh, and replace the night sky mesh from the original download with it. That should fix your problem.

Thank you very much. I just tried it and wow, looks beautiful.

Starwarsguy, are you planning on adding this to your download just incase people get bug'd? It'd be a shame for them to miss your work just because of that; I see how it should be now and I'm impressed.

*goes back to make sure I voted on your mod*

Yup, see earlier pages of this thread, I'm going to update this with a 3.1 including some fixes for stuff, when? That is unknown to me because I'm taking a break from the skies stuff right now, it was hard work making those skies, and I'm not quite ready yet to continue overhauling them.

Night sky still looks strange to me.
i downloaded the updated night sky mesh, and it worked Half.
that means that the sky doesn't look crazy, but the moon isn't there and the texture's are still crazy.
to show it looks like http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj265/zackgwin/MGEScreenshot37-3.jpg but it isn't messed up.

but everything else worked and is awesome!

Are you sure? It worked for everyone else who got it, just put it in your "data files/meshes/" folder and it should work. If it doesn't then I've got a real problem on my hands.

If this is true, it's because the game engine is making it happen, I've done all I could do to the mesh, and if it truly isn't working and you've installed it correctly, then I don't know what to say.

But I seriously think that you just haven't installed the fix properly, the screenshot you've shown shows the exact issue of someone who hasn't installed it, perhaps, you could try naming the mesh in the package to "sky_night_01.nif" and setting it up to replace that mesh?

i found the problem!

for users of m.g.e if you are going to play this, deactivate antialasing and distant blur, somehow the night skies gets distorted by it.

Really? I didn't notice that myself, because I never tested with distant blur- they blur the skies.

EDIT: When I finish the update I will add that to the description.

Really, the distant blur fix should be added as an option to MGE one day.

It should just be customizable as to what it affects in my opinion.

you should have http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=976590&st=20 Incorporated in the new readme for distant blur users.

I've tried that, it doesn't work with Phal's water.

I don't know, I think I'm using a glitched DLL right now, and I never play my game, so I wouldn't know, you could send my your ingame.fx file if you wanted to test though...

A new night sky, huh... it's pretty, but does it still have the Mage, Thief, and Warrior constellations that move about with the months?

It doesn't just have those constellations, it has all of them!

About them moving with the months, what are you referring to?

I can report that the fixed mesh fixed my problems with the sky.

On my laptop both INI settings are to dark at nights which cause some contrast problems. Will tweak it myself to get a good value =http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1021863-relz-swgs-skies-v3/)

The night sky constellations change with the months, or at least they are supposed to, see: http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/firmament.shtml, though I suppose this could also mean the sun should rise from different places throughout the year.

I would also like to request that a copy of the changes to the .ini file be in the readme for the next update, it could make it easier to see what mods would conflict and allow for manual change if neccessary.
