[RELz] SWG's Skies v3

Post » Wed Jan 27, 2010 7:13 pm

The night sky constellations change with the months, or at least they are supposed to, see: http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/firmament.shtml, though I suppose this could also mean the sun should rise from different places throughout the year.

I would also like to request that a copy of the changes to the .ini file be in the readme for the next update, it could make it easier to see what mods would conflict and allow for manual change if neccessary.

The vanilla game only has the constellations Mage, Theif, and Warrior, which appear at all the months, that book is cool, I didn't know about that stuff.

Just open up the .mit files with a text editor.

Thus the "supposed to". This seems like one of few projects that could(would) fix that.

It is possible with MGE, hooked textures and MWSE pipe to get the current day etc to hook/change texture for the nigh-sky. It won't transition but will abruptly change one day to the other, which might be a bit of a downer. Also I don't think all necessary functions are readily available at this point, but I'm sure it can be done.

I won't be working on weather related things for a while, I've been taking a break from the never ending toil of fixing issues with Morrowind's fail of a weather system.

It doesn't just have those constellations, it has all of them!

About them moving with the months, what are you referring to?

I could swear they changed positions in the Vanilla sky. Perhaps I was merely mistaken.

They did? Well, I hope you're not mistaken, because that would have been really cool.

Anyways, starwarsguy, the constellations move around according to lore, I think based on the serpent and which lesser sign he is attacking in that month or something like that. You should go to the TES lore area and ask what they think happens with that. If you wanted to implement such a thing you could simply create a separate texture and mesh for each separate sky you would need to accommodate the lore and then just disable and enable them according to what month it was.

Edit: I missed the part where you were referred to the Firmament and said it was a cool book. I suppose my implementation for a future upgrade to your skies still works though.

I don't really feel like figuring out how to get that working right now, but when I resume messing with the weather (and I've got a lot of plans for my next modding attack) this will probably be one of them. I also think the Vanilla night sky (which is more lore correct, the mesh would just need some tweaks) still has quite some potential, although mines still lore friendly, since it's based on the orrery in redguard.

Darknut's first person mod?

Darknut's first person was reported to make the sunglare disable, and since the sun in your shot just isn't showing the glare, I'm guessing that's what's wrong.

Just a heads up for those who are not getting the sun glare, it's not only Darknut's 1st person mod which prevents it from showing: Wearing certain robes on your character, in first or third person, does too.

I have no idea why, but it does.

When the sun doesn't show glare, it's becuase an object of some sort is blocking it, there might be something in the mesh that you can't see, otherwise the game would be thinking it's getting blocked for some reason.

The game might be calculating sun's visibility with the respect of an offset. And that offset must be occluded by the robe meshes. I am thinking it is way behind the eyes. If I'm right, it should affect more when looking up. I remember I saw the sunglare a couple of times with DN's FP mod.

I'm not sure what everyone's question is on this screen. Is it the ring effect that is in question.

Sorta bump, I just installed this and it's fantastic!

One suggestion or request... I'm a big fan of "red skies morrowind" by Cryonaut (screens: http://www.morrowind-mod.com/imagesmr/Cyronaut/ReplacerNature.jpg DL: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=452). It fits the world better. Red Mountain spewing out ash and blight and crud would have a noticeable effect on the surrounding countryside, and bright blue cheery days just don't fit. Ever thought of doing a Red Skies version? I for one would absolutely love it. Also adding some color to the stars would be nice... the nebula and big stuff are neat, but the stars themselves would be cool with a little variety.

Read http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=968771 for info on what happened with the INI changes. Just to clarify though, it should be pretty easy to make a red skies INI for this though, just change the settings which apply and everything should come together nicely. If you don't know how to edit weather changes in the INI, check out http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1020879 I had made.

Oh cool, thanks! I thought it would involve texture editing and Photoshop crashes when I try to open some of the larger .dds's.

So if I want redder skies, just up the red rgb numbers by a few, right? Is that the first set of three numbers?

What I meant is copy/paste the appropriate INI values from the red skies INI into my INI. I'd just copy over values for sky/fog/sun colours.
