[WIP] SWG's Skies V3

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:22 pm

Hey SWG, was wondering how these are doing, they look hellishly awesome!

As far as texturing goes, I just gotta finish up some tweaks to the sunglare textures, and make the snow, blizzard, and overcast skies. Then I'll be messing with my INI until all the sets are done.

Speaking of INI's, I was going to make a "distant land" customization for the ini sets as well, since the "fog color" value int the INI changes the horizon and cloud colour, but I do find the huge horizon line a bit irratating, what I propose is that on the distant land version I tone down the fog threshold values so that the horizon line isn't so huge, unfortunately, for non distant land users this will make the fog almost invisible, letting the player see the draw line.

The thing is, progress has been a little slow lately, but that's because I've been working on other stuff, mainly Province: Cyrodiil.

Nobody posted? I don't like having to double post.. especially when saying something like, all the texture work is done!!

The only stuff I've got to do now is the rest of the INI tweaks, I myself am anxious in seeing the result of tweaks making the atmosphere colours more like Mars, and am really exited to have fun with making the atmosphere like a blue starred planet!

Ok, I'm going to say it, in my opinion, after using my newer stuff for this long, I'd say version 2 svcks, it's just another dumb vanilla tiled sky mod, the changes in v3 make one hell of a difference over the vanilla sky system.

Right now I'm gonna finish up on the earthlike atmosphere tweak set, then, I have fun, and make a Marslike atmosphere!

So... almost a release? I look forward to it. And nice work on the horizon thing, with MGE it is indeed a huge one.

Here's something I didn't post yet, http://i25.tinypic.com/2eg64bl.jpg, just to increase the drooling factor.

When I first tested it ingame, I was really really suprised, it looked amazingly real and functioned amazingly realistically, the screenshot does that sun no justice, it's amazing.

Right now
Spoiler
zackg and I are getting down to business on the IC isle
so that'll postpone my work on this a bit. Of course I'm going to be making little tweaks and such on my spare moments to speed up the release, but what I'm doing instead is for a good cause. :D

I'm very happy to see you're finishing this project up SWG. :^)

Now I'll be itching for updates on your "detailed world" project, you are just working on so much awesome stuff!

I have to double post again? Sigh...

Anyway, I just finished a few of the INI customizations, right now I'm working on the marslike ones, and getting the fog threshold tweaks perfect (makes the horizon not so huge). Depending on how often I work on my customizations, we may see this release relatively soon, maybe in a week or two if I work on it periodically, maybe a few days if I really get down to business...

Get down to business damnit! No just kidding, take the time you need... And hey, if you're finishing up multiple stuff, that might indicate an upcoming SWG-RELz-spree? :D

Well, only two relz at the most, the Cyrodiil stuff isn't for the public... yet. At least not until we release the first map or anything, and that's depending on when the resources are made, which is up to me! :toughninja:

With the menu though, all I need to do is finish converting files, which can be slow.

Off topic, are you still having issues with enb and the menu not working together? On topic, these skies look phenomenal!!! :D

The menu will not be compatible with ENB, I've already contacted Timeslip and he says the texture hooking function would have to be completely reprogrammed to work with ENB, it's not a problem with MGE either, it's that ENB requires another "dxd9.dll" which ends up conflicting with other DLL's and crashing the game when texture hooks are used. But this isn't my menu thread, all questions and discussion about my menu can go http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=959471, in the appropriate spot.

On topic, I was testing some customizations for marslike skies last night, it looked interesting, but I'm going to have to find some more shades of red/orange because right now it just looks like it's a sunset all day. :P Also, if anyone wants this to go faster, there's stuff you can do other than just waiting, I need pictures as refrence for the mars colours/blue starred colours, so if anyone finds any pictures, go ahead and post them. Right now I specifically and working on the marslike colours.

Ooh thanks, I particularly like the "Golden Skies" one, should look good as daytime sky colours. The last link should provide some interesting colours as well.

In addition to the clear and partly cloudy skies, what would you guys suggest I do with the rest of the weather? I'm considering going into Photoshop with the colours and giving a bunch of them a red/orange/yellow/pinkish hue(s) to change it up a bit, this should look interesting, who knows, I may start using mars colours myself, they're a nice alien change from blue skies all the time. I'll probably end up using the blue starred settings in the end of it all though, I have a love for blue stars...
