[WIP] SWG's Skies V3

Holy crap that video is fantastic

Agreed! It is fabulous =)

Makes me wonder. Since it's a mesh that can be accessed and changed, it should be possible to use animated textures. Would you imagine that o_O That would be 6 stars or more O_O

I could, but the problem is, with an animated texture there would be no alpha and it would be way too big. I mean the textures themselves are already like 20mb big, which is a major issue.

Good grief, that looks stunning, great work matey! :tops:

I love the little Aurora that you have towards the end, is it set up so that changes every so often?

That's not an Aurora, that's an edited version of the Horsehead Nebula if your referring to the blue object. All the bright white spots in the sky are the birthsign constellations, so you'll actually be able to star hunt! Can you find your birthsign?

I'm probably going to edit the texture a bunch though, the constellations showed up way bigger than I expected, there just are'nt enough nebulas for me, and it's too dark with ENB. Although with the last I'll probably just edit my ENB settings.

Hmm... good point. Mostly the no alpha part. The size while bad on memory, I'd say it's still within good boundaries. Might I ask what resolution it is? 20mb is big. it must be bigger then 4048x4048 (i think that's the nr). Those textures occupy at most 12mb for me.

I already said before they are 4096x4096 and yes, they are around 20mb each, which is really big. Although, AVI's would probably compress better if they were only 1-10 frames.

I doubt that AVI is the only way to go though. Since they would, as you said, take away the transparency. Couldn't you use the flip controller in Nifskope to switch the textures? I think that's how many people do it.

Again, of course, you'd be working with this 20mb file o_O.

Haha. Well I won't request it. It already looks AWESOME =) Keep it up man!

(I might try making it animate myself, I just can't let go of the idea right now).

Forgive me if I'm stating the bleeding obvious, but you do know about:
Tx_Stars_Mage.dds
Tx_Stars_Thief.dds
Tx_Stars_Warrior.dds
Don't you?

Yes, but that was kind of limited, i mean, 3 constellations? C'mon! The fun thing about starhunting is that you can sit for hours and look about the stars, in Vanilla you can find all three in about 10 seconds.

Have you altered the mesh so those three constellations don't appear? Or, if they're included in your 20MB sky texture will we get duplicates of the e.g. Warrior constellation?

The edits I've made to the sky mesh make it work exactly the same as the daytime clouds mesh, it's a dome that has a texture wrapped onto it. There's no doubling of anything.

I can find no meshes for the sky. If you can find them please point them out.
Do you mean to say you are editing the morrowind ini weather settings?

On the CS disk:

Data Files/Meshes
"sky_atmosphere.nif"
"sky_clouds_01.nif"
"sky_clouds_01_no_tex.nif"
"sky_moon_large.nif"
"sky_moon_small.nif"
"sky_night_01.nif"

I've used a couple of these before to create daylight/night cave exits like in Oblivion.
I hope those are what you're looking for.

Thanks for your advice/input. All I was really planning on changing in the rain/snow NIF's were the shape/size of the individual billboards so that I can make the rain/snow look a certain way.

Quoted for truth. Foggy skies are not as top-notch as the other skies.

I can agree with that, I wasn't particularly fond of that texture myself.

I just finished the new night sky textures, the problem is, the meshes really stretch the nebula textures, so I can't really make them look detailed, I think I'll try changing the texture resolutions to stuff like 2048x1024 before I mess with any of the meshes.

I'm also working on some new sunglare, I've been studying how the sun looks (by looking at it at different times of the day) and I got a pretty good idea of how a great looking texture could be made, I made the non-visible sun texture (for sunsets and when the sun is behind trees/etc), now I just gotta make this brilliant glare texture.

And off I go!

um.....when you mean studying how the sun looks i hope youre not staring at it several times a day.

There's also the particle meshes, and "sky_night_02.nif" in the Bloodmoon meshes.

I'm already done doing that.
