Switching a .bak file to a .esp and Adobe blocking

Post » Wed Feb 05, 2014 6:00 am

Okay, so I recently transferred over some of my files over to a brand new computer. However, for some reason the new computer's creation kit is not even showing the Plugin files I transferred over. This is really starting to stress me out as these files are important for my graduate thesis.

I have heard that .bak files are back up of the original .esp file. If this is true, what is the process in transforming these files into the appropriate .esp so I can actually work on it?

Second, for some unknown reason, Adobe acrobat is continually butting in and trying to read the files whenever I try to do anything with them. This is really getting annoying and might be preventing the files from being read as what they actually are. How do I get that to stop?

I could really use some help here guys.

By changing the .bak extension to .esp.

You have to delete the .bak extension only, and leave the .esp extension.

ex: mymod.esp.1.bak → mymod.esp

Okay, do I do this just through naming or do I have to drag it through a file creator?

Through renaming it. Right click → rename → hilight everything after .esp, and hit delete.

Okay I'll give it a shot on one of the nine .bak files I have. If it works... HURRAY. If not, purge the system and the heretic and start anew.

Okay, I've changed the file type and it seemed to work.

However, the plugin is still not showing up in the directory in data meaning I still cannot access.

Thoughts?

Have you moved it from the Backup folder to the Data folder ?

I feel like a bit of an idiot, but no. The problem was I did not have the file in the data folder.

In my defense, I'm new to the creation kit, please do not think lowly of me. :P

Honest mistake.
