Switching off the BS

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 10:13 pm

Can anyone tell me if it's humanely possible to switch off the asinine, incessant yapping of the henchies short of killing the volume or ripping out the speaker plug? It just so kills the immersion for me when I am in some dank tunnels, infested with ghouls, and every 15 seconds some moronic remark is made. I can handle it when I am not in sneak mode but it really makes me want to shoot the [censored] in the head...

Uhm. No. Try not taking a henchman, and you really can't expect an NPC to be quiet for your sake.

Honestly. People do talk. I suppose you could turn the dialogue volume all the way down, but I'm not sure that would help.

If you're on PC, there is a mod to remove the ridiculous and often awkward pvssyr. Just type "NPC" into the Nexus search bar; it'll be close to the top if you filter for endorsemants.

I think the OP was talking about the convo in Sneak mode. I do agree with him it is annoying, but I don't think I've noticed it drawing attention or being "seen" due to it. Just some NPC's can be quite repetitive!

Bring Dogmeat instead, He loves you no matter what you do, and never ruins your Sneak :)

I kind of like it when Piper actually catches herself talking while sneaking and apologizing for it. Course when she does it over and over it does get old.

The worse is when the 'need to talk to you' and they keep telling you that as you're trying to do other things.

Hehe yet another reason I travel alone. No companions, no annoying pvssyr. I love it!

I like the pvssyr, it keeps me company. This is why I don't bring Dogmeat, you can't say anything.

When you start sneaking, put a bullet in your companions head. They'll stay silent for awhile and you get to sneak around like a ninja.

It's a win-win, brah.

But then we'd get complaining about his huffing and whining. If it's that irritating, better to go it alone, I guess.

No back-up, no company and no extra inventory space either.

Precisely why I refuse to take the dog. It's even more annoying than the other drag-alongs.

Actually, companions don't add that much extra carrying capacity. With a companion, I lose the benefits of Lone Wanderer. I lose a *little* carrying capacity but it's a completely worthwhile trade-off for me.

The only time their dialogue has bothered me is when they are constantly triggering locational dialogue. I wanted to ring Curie's neck when we went to that excavation site with the flooded quarry. She was commenting on the number of gallons it would take to fill it up over, and over, and over, and over again in rapid succession. Had the same thing happen at a sinkhole. They really do need some sort of counter for location based comments.

This is the #2 reason on my "Why Dogmeat is the best companion" list.

There will be a mod like "Don't Bother Me" for Skyrim that makes the trigger detection for NPCs 0. You actually have to initiate conversation with them in order for them to speak. It does remove some cool intro lines, but once you know the game, you're missing nothing. It has no effect on scripted dialogue sequences.

Patience...the CK will be here soon.*

(* : Note that "soon" is a connotation of "soon", and all associated meanings [almost, nearly, etc.] are true insofar as "soon" applies to all valid perceptions of time and proximity as a cosmic whole. Individual experience may vary.)

I don't mind the pvssyr of the companions that's the whole point of having them. Why should they stay mute? Do you honestly hire people and ask them to never speak once? Ever? It's not realistic, at least with piper she's tries to cute about it lol

It's simply a matter of hearing the exact same things 5-10 times...EACH...within a span of 1 hour. As far as dialogue goes, I think companions should say certain things only once. Comments should be added that are meaningful to the area situation you're in. They could add a lot more variety. And/or, there should be a "Shut Up" button for companions.

Have you ever taken an extended hiking trip? Multiple-day or overnight. You don't do a whole lot of talking unless you stop for a rest. Hours pass by without a word.

You should go hiking with my friends. They don't shut up unless they get eaten by a bear and Lord knows the bears all hear them coming. Blah! Blah! Blah! Shut up already!
