Switching to Robert's Female body type

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 11:57 pm

Can you kinda sorta use clothing/armour of another body type (as in, not all, but maybe one) and get away with it?

Like, say, Bab's? Is it close enough?

I am getting sick of EC, tbh, and feel the need to commit to a change (back) I've been thinking about for a while now. Compatibility isn't so bad for the most part, with Robert's, seeing there are conversions for all of FCOM. But there's so much Babness I'd like to use too... sigh. Well, hopefully it's doable.

Well, the general rule is that the more more skin your clothing covers, the more compatible it will be. Robes, for instance, are pretty compatible with every body mod without needing to alter them. If you're looking at something sorta skimpy, I would say no. Something somewhere in the middle: try it. A little experimenting can't hurt. It really depends how much you really want the clothes/armor compared to the amount of time you want to spend testing them to see if they'll be compatible.

I haven't compared the UV maps for those bodies, so I can't really comment on them working well together, but if you keep the BAB clothing shop installed, doesn't it have equippable hands and feet for purchase? It did back when I was using it. That would at least take care of wrist gaps if you wore a full coverage Bab outfit on a Robert's using character. I don't imagine you'll be able to use any of the skimpy Bab stuff without texture errors, unless you performed some Nifskope-ry.

I see. So, how difficult is this "Nifskope-ry"? For a total newcomer, I mean.

Not that there would probably be that much skimpy gear, actually. But you never know.

It's annoying, that Bab doesn't have full FCOM compatibility, but has a vast array of awesomeness besides. And that Robert's is quite the opposite. :(

This is, indeed, why I have stuck with EC for some time.

Well, I don't think it's difficult if you're already familiar with Nifskope, but it's an involved and rather tedious process, and it works best (imho) if you are using a custom race, with a custom body texture that is tinted the way you like from the beginning without requiring adjustments.

You could always download Blender and start learning to convert armor to your preferred body type. I'm sure other Bab's enthusiasts would thank you. :)

Any tips, tricks, or even links to get started with that? (edit: ... other than to download Blender or Nifskope - I can handle that! ;))

I am utterly new to both Nifskope and Blender. The types of program in general, even. The closest thing I've done is some very little ESP/ESM modifying and creation. And completing a couple of basic CS tutorials, of the house creation (etc.) type. And yeah, I take it none of that is remotely close. So I'm completely in the dark, really.

Since Eshme's, EyeCandy(and its variants), Robert's, BAB, FF have different UV mapping each other, you will have messed up skin(namely 'nipbles on my thigh') without doing some conversion/remapping job. As Fiore1300 said, the more skin covered, the more compatible the clothing will be, though you will see the body shape changing when the actor wears it.

**To anyone who is using HGEC and want to change body type: If you want to retain HGEC texture, there's 'The Girl Next Door'.

Robert's also has clothing that's compatible. Alienslof recently released another version that she calls Slofs Better Bodies - RMF. Try searching on Nexus for it. Not sure if it will be to your taste or not, but it looks like she included clothes as well. I've always used Robert's and have found some clothing and armour mods to go with it. If you like, I can see if I can dig up the names.

I've already done some searching, and downloading, prior to starting the thread... that said though, sure! :) Feel free to post any stuff you think is good.

edit: Just DLd RMF as well - I'll see how that goes. Quite like some of Slof's mods... just not the more risque stuff, really, and that's only a matter of taste, not quality.

I finally went through my list and I imagine you've found them all already. Basically I grabbed Robert Male Muscular Stock Clothing and Armor. That's by Senchan that did a bunch of others as well. For the women, I found that Roberts Female v12 - Fixed and PyFFied had clothing included. I found though that searching for Roberts Female yields a bunch of results on Nexus.

Yes, but this is strictly the clothing that Robert included in the original mod, as I did not change/add any of the clothing myself (other than the repairded shoes).

Having said that, the clothing in the Roberts mod is a bit inconsistent in shape and form. Depending on what she wears the chest/boobies area looks quite differently sometimes, and the waist area is also sometimes better sometimes not. The Kvatch cuirass fit her quite badly for example. The legs in leather greaves or fur greaves look rather too thin. But I am not complaining, I'm still using Roberts after all these months. I cannot do it any better myself, so I'm content with how it is.
