Swiveller's Sundries: Dunmer City Banners
*****************************************

V 1.0

This is a high-res texture pack for Bethesda's computer game Morrowind. It currently replaces the Dunmer town banners, the Dunmer shop banners and the banner of House Telvanni. It does not yet replace the Vivec canton banners or the Ashlander banners.

The designs are generally close to those of the original banners, yet in making these I have attempted to give every banner a bit of individual character, beyond that provided by the Bethesda textures.

INSTALLING
**********

Copy the *.dds files from the 'textures' folder in this archive to your Morrowind\Data Files\Textures folder, and allow Windows to overwrite. I recommend backing up your textures folder first, so that you can revert to the previous situation later if you should wish to do so. Not that this is likely, of course, given the general spiffyness of this mod.

CREDITS AND LICENSES
********************

Many of these textures incorporate art based on designs by Bethesda Softworks. The town banners employ lettering from the original textures that was transferred to a new base texture and then digitally enhanced. The designs on the other banners were hand-painted by me, using their Bethesda equivalents as a model. Two very free interpretations of the banners for clothiers and book sellers can be found in the 'alternatives' folder. They can be used instead of the standard versions, which remain closer to the originals.

The base texture was based on a photograph of cloth found in the public domain.

None of these textures are to be used with any other programme than Bethesda Software's TES III: Morrowind.

****
NOTE
****

You may see what looks like thin threads around these textures if you view them from a medium distance. These are produced by the DDS compression algorithm and disappear if you view the textures from close by. While it is possible to remove the 'threads' entirely by generating DDS files without mipmaps, this will cause striping on the banners when they move.

The threads no longer bother me as they add a bit of realism to these cloth banners. If I find a way to fully suppress their generation, however, I may release a version that doesn't have them.
