Sword fighting on the Ark

Post » Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:10 pm

Has anyone ever seen a screenshot (or hell, concept art) of a female on the ark? It seems like along with all the gun battles, there would be an awful lot of sword fighting going on.
Now iirc females weren't included because they didn't have the room. My question to the community is if they would be interested in a dlc pack that did nothing more than add female models into the game, it would include all the customization options (or more) of the males and add unique voices and clothing options for the characters.

Don't mind either way to be honest. I can play mmorpg if I really need to customize a chick avatar. But then again I can always just meet up with girls I know in real life - It's kinda better don't you think?
Or buy Barbie.

But yea, we don't really need female characters nor swords after all it's an FPS(HOOTER)

ahh yea.

i've heard rumors of npc females. civilians and what not that run off to the side i'd assume or maybe in cut scenes but i'd doubt it. another large portion of the problem with female characters would be art designing , if i were to make a game like this i wouldn't want some random average build typical girl running past you in cut scene in part 1 but part 2 of the game females look totally different :P (btw can we stop saying "females"? it's not like it's a crime to say a chick or a girl or even a women.)

and can we please for the love of god stop asking for girlie DLC's? it's just too big people it's not like a new set of key's or something ok? it's alot to ask out of them, more then you know. a DLC is completely out of the question, now if you'd want to donate a couple grand to fund it and if you'd like them to move the release date back a few more months again then go for it but DLC is totally not going to happen.

and why swords? just because we fell into civil war doesn't mean were going back to the knights of the round table. now in the beginning i'd assume Res were taking down Sec's with a kitchen knife or something, just ambushing them and taking their weaponry for themselves but they'd likely stop using such tactics after a few months of gathering guns and not using them.

(p.s. ty sSpadE for doing exactly what i was talking about  everyone has been too weird to say chick on here i guess it's good to see somebody a little more relaxed about it)

Edit: excessive rantings and such.

I honestly don't mind the lack of estrogen for a simple reason, I'm a southerner,
shooting at chicks has never felt quite right to me

Amen to that

You have my old face (Avatar)! Good choice!

Also, disagreed. I'm pretty much the only guy I know who thinks that refusing to hit a girl who starts a fight is sixist. You hit me and it hurts, guy or girl, you're going to get hurt. You hit me and it doesn't hurt, guy or girl, I'm going to laugh at you. You hurt my friends, and... well... :obliviongate: <= Pray this happens before I find you.

According to Richard Ham, female avatars are high on the priority list.
Without being sixist here, I must say: Sadly. Because more groundbreaking stuff should be very high. BRINK isn't a social dress-up simulation like The Sims, Second Life or each and every MMORPG, after all.

(btw can we stop saying "females"? it's not like it's a crime to say a chick or a girl or even a women.)

First and foremost it's a bunch of pixels to me. Like a doll, not a person.
So I continue saying male and female avatars.

when i say "sword fighting" i don't mean with actual swords hehe. I ment, well think about. anyways, i think it would be cool to have a dlc pack like this that is totally optional and adds a little more flavor to the game. also someone mentioned some "chicks" being in cutscenes, if anyone has a link to this i'd love to see some pics/vids of the long-jawed chicks on the ark just to check out how they would look in this art style, thanks!

Why not? I melee the hell out of them just the same. It's a game and most of them are dudes playing as chicks cause of what you stated. That's the reason I have no issues with that.

I think they should definitely add female avatars into the game. It was dumb of them to put so much work into customizations, but then overlook gender.

They didn't over look gender. They looked at how much resource it was taking away from the game. Decided it would let them have more customizing for the male original characters and left it out on purpose for that reason.

CoD has no female character and has done fine. BFBC:2 has no female either.

So basically you're saying they're just sixist, and thats okay because so are the creators of other games that people play.

No, and yes.

Is it sixist that the NFL is full of men? Not that women aren't "allowed", they just aren't there. Same goes for the game.

You're comparing relatively unrelated things there. What does a sport in real life, have to do with a fictional game world?
The developers are completely capable of putting in female avatars without damaging the game. sixism is really not acceptable.

sixism isn't the reason females aren't in Brink.

A swords only mode would be fun if a little bit silly.

Dude, when developers automatically make all avatars male, thats sixist. They can say they didn't have room for females, but if they have so little room to spare why make male avatars? Why not just genderless blobs?

It involves ONLY MEN, not women as the players on the field. Brink......involves ONLY MEN, not women on the playing field. Relatively the same thing. Players playing a game.

Yes

No

It's a resource thing. Not a sixist thing.

Saying they are sixist is sort of pushing it don't you think?

If the fact that there are not female character models in a video game offends you so deeply, simply exercise Capitalism and refuse to buy the game. The fact of the matter is that the highest concern in making a game is the gameplay, and a higher percentage of gamers are male as opposed to female, so it makes sense for them to start with male character models, and then focus on the gameplay, and then see if there is room for female character models. Adding female character models would not change the gameplay at all, so if they don't have room to add them without removing other essential features, then I agree with their decision.

Battlefield is sixist.

Doom is sixist.

Duke Nukem is sixist.

So is virtually every sports game. I would love to play Madden with only genderless blobs but the dummies developing those games keep putting in male avatars...

I plan on buying the game, it looks really boss and the avatar thing is the only issue I have with it. As someone who is going to be making videogames as a career, I'd be a fool not to check out a game that seems to be taking a big step forward in the way FPS are made. I'm anti-Capitalism anyways.
By making their game appeal primarily to men as consumers, they are loosing possible income. You'd be surprised how many women play shooters.

I know that there are plenty of women who player shooters, but I disagree that they are losing income. You are assuming that women are going to refuse to buy the game because they cannot play as a female character. I think that if they are fans of shooters, as you have suggested, they will still buy it. I would buy this game if it contained only female character models. Heck, that might not be such a bad thing. But at the end of the day a game is based primarily on gameplay, so as long as the gameplay is good, the game should do just fine.
