So SWTOR is doing player housing...

Post » Sat Mar 08, 2014 2:43 am

Probably THE worst game engine ever, but SWTOR is doing player housing. It will most likely be just a room that you can't customize, but you can unlock stuff that will appear in set positions.

Will ESO ever do player housing? Think about it, there's a whole map, there could be loads of places to put houses other than just the cities. Id love to have a house overlooking a lake or something

You can't give everything on release, They need things to give us in the future so yes they will do player housing.

SWTOR touted your ship as player housing when it first came out ... so they have other plans now?

I thought of the ship as my house there.

Well Wildstar is launching with player housing, ESO NEEDS player housing most good mmos have then, the elder scrolls games have then, it makes no sense that we don't have it.

I disagree. ESO does not need housing in the least, however, in a few years this might make for a good xpac. I thought LOTRO player housing was pretty good, altho housing upkeep was crappy.

Wildstar needs gimmicks to try and hook players from the WoW crew. This is one of those gimmicks.

Nah. In the Elder Scrolls series housing isn't a gimmick - its a trademark.

Elder Scrolls without housing would be like Star Wars without light sabers. They need to add it in asap.

It's more of an Elder Scrolls staple than a gimmick. Player housing has been a part of TES since Daggerfall.

They should make player towns for around 100 people each in different environments. Maybe with elected mayors, a system to vote troll players out of towns, an instanced 'build mode', maybe a tax system for adding different useful or decorative things to the town.

Would maybe be a nice bridge between instanced player houses and massive unappealing cities.

I'm ok with ZOS waiting post launch. Good idea to take time and figure out how to integrate it best into the game.

I'd love to see thieving part of it.

I generally dont care about player housing. if they add it, cool, if they dont, Im okay. then again, I mostly play young adventurers-in-training who are just starting out and wouldnt just settle down anytime soon. but I suppose it would be nice if ESO had it for those that care.

No absolute need to launch with it but they should definitely get it added ASAP as lets face it, housing is a major component to the Elder Scrolls world. Plus, another reason to prompt players to maintain their $15 sub.

They couldn't even manage customization of the ship you supposedly owned, so not sure how they'd pull that off with housing.

Frankly, the ship should be sufficient as a mobile home.

I'd like to see something like that but guild based - there are options for both PvE and PvP versions too, for guild versus guild or PvE guild versus NPC raids etc.

These instances would give another possibility for player merchants too.

If and when they do player housing, I feel it is something they will do properly and not rush to implement. A lot of games have really botched this idea, like Final Fantasy XIV for example.

I do agree it's an integral part of the ES solo RPG series and I'm sure it's on the tab to be developed here for the future, but I don't think it's needed right now in the least.

Man I TOTALLY disagree with you. Housing has been a major part of TES for a long time. The sooner the better and I hope they do it well.

The sooner they add it in the better, as it will help them retain subscriptions from a whole bunch of people for whom endgame isn't important. For a lot of people it's an important activity in itself (look at how popular it is in RIFT). For the endgame people it's a place to show off their progress in the game (trophies and expensive things).

Waiting to add it in AFTER a bunch of people have dropped their subs and left the game is just dumb, and bad business.

Nothing beat the original King of Kings mmo by the asian where guilds build an instanced town which can be invaded by enemies.

It's been said, housing is a huge part of the elder scrolls series. I am glad that at least one person disagrees, so our discussion isn't completely one sided.
