PC System Requirements predictions?

Post » Fri Oct 08, 2010 5:02 am

Do you think our PC's will be able to handle this game, or will it be another rig killer like oblivion was when it first came out? My PC now can max oblivion at an average of 100-150 fps. But I'm upgrading soon to 2 580's for Skyrim's release. What do you think the requirements will be to play this game on high?

Do a search. There are about 10 threads about the PC Requirements. No one knows yet.

2 580s are a bit overkill. I dont expect the graphics to be that intense. I suspect they will be keeping around the same quality for all 3 platforms. With a bit more on the PC end of things since the console hardware is aging. Hopefully it supports DX11 but I wouldnt count on it.

Itll probably perform better than Oblivion did while still also looking better than Oblivion did, so I wouldnt worry.

They've said they want it looking about the same across all platforms, so I'd expect the requirements to be low, especially considering that the major technical improvements over oblivion appear to be in lighting, and very little else. Factoring in Oblivion's hilariously poor optimisation and the requirements may not far exceed Oblivion's.

My prediction: if your rig handled last year's games on high no prob then it will handle Skyrim on average no prob. Upgrade only if you want to max the settings out. Best place to start is the graphics card as it is essentially the prime limiting factor.

The only thing I know is that it will kill my current rig.

I'll get it for my xbox, then when I upgrade this time next year will start looking at a new rig

Im guessing it'll be about the same, if not jsut slightly more than Oblivion.

Oblivion is poorly optimized at best, with the new game engine things may be better.

Sometimes the GPU is the limiting component. But your PC is only as fast as your slowest part. You want to try to get a good balance between CPU/GPU and RAM. And in the case of Oblivion/Fallout 3, it was severely limited by the HDD.

Probably something as powerful as the cell processor.

You mean any processor from the past 3 years? Yeah, sounds about right, if Oblivion is anything to go by Skyrim will be heavier than average on the CPU.

Minimum = dual core proc,512MB GPU,2GB RAM

Recommended = quad core,1GB GPU,4 GB RAM

A typical formula that can still be applied for most games...

Possibly, but since this is a complete new engine, we dont know what to expect. As with Oblivion and FO, you couldnt compare the requirements really with other games of their time. And dual core/quad core doesnt mean too much with out architecture and clock speed.

Ofcourse,but we are to assume a gamer won't buy a lowest grade quad core. :)

Everything that is not low end or high end is a best buy...well,almost everything...

I like how you put recommended quad core as if it were to play it with lag, have you seen videos between intel 6 core and quad core cpu's in game benchmarks. I saw a video of a guy using Unigine Heaven and he used the exact same system only with one being a 980x and the other being a 920 both at stock. There was only 0.6 FPS difference

Yes, let's. What engine the game is running on does not change that NPCs have complex schedules or AI, does not change that there are many NPCs with reduced, but existing, AI calculated throughout the whole game, and doesn't change the fact that the combat AI is more complex than "Find cover; Shoot". It will be more demanding simply by virtue of what it is.

Doubt my laptop will run it well, so I'll probably just get it for PS3.

Uhm, let's use one of those threads and continue there shall we? ;)

I'm just hoping for proper multicore support and the game being able to use more than 2GB of RAM when available. Oh, and a DX10/DX11 executable for PC ;)

My god i am getting so bored of these repeat threads.....

Then next time please use the Report button instead of making a post about it. Cheers!

Thanks,
