..err. What's this then? Anyone know anything about this?

Huh.

Why, that...

where has that been hiding all these years?

When I started out, I didn't think D&D was very well suited to the Tamriel setting (namely the conflicting magic systems). Plus, SPECIAL is a lot easier to work with than d20.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that in my post. Rather than using the spells/day magic system we just used the points system from the Psionics and the spell/powercrafting from the Epic Level Handbook.

I was thinking about doing magic in a different, more balanced sort of way than Morrowind:

As a magic user, you specialize in one school of Magicka, and in that specialized school, you have basic access to all the spell effects within that school. The power of the spell and for how many rounds can be chosen on-the-fly, some of which are determined by enviornmental factors (i.e, the Undead's level for Turn Undead.), eliminating the need to study and learn spells. As for the other schools you didn't specialize in, you have to study and learn spells whose power level is pre-determined and static, unless you learn a more powerful version of that spell.

Also, I thought about modifying the Summon Creature spell so that it requires a soulgem filled with the soul of what you want to summon. Either that, or use that mechanic as a cheaper alternative to summoning creatures by the power of your will alone.

Spell effects are done, as well as basic alchemy. Now comes a truly terrifying task: ENCHANTING!

Since there seems to be a lot of interest in a tabletop Elder Scrolls setting, I thought I'd share the http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91755 I mentioned earlier. I haven't had a chance to test it out, as it was pretty much just made to kill time, but enjoy!

Also, i'm very interested in this S.P.E.C.I.A.L idea. Maybe I missed something, but if there's a link or something, that'd be great. :)

Since we're sharing, here is something I put up last night: http://aplaceformystuff.webs.com/
Both good and bad feedback will be appriciated.

And concerning the SPECIAL-system; the OP put a link http://pnp.fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page in the first post. This is the Fallout-game, I haven't seen any fantasy-version of it - yet. I'm waiting for DonZabu to finish his.

edit: removed the spell section for moral reasons(copyright)

So.. I'm waiting for more from Don Zabu. Don't want to see this thread die, after being all fired up about it.
How come all these homegrown TES-conversions suddenly came crawling out of the woodwork now? Many of them are ancient, and I've never found them before. I doubt the TESforum-users alone would be able to rank 'em up on google?

Well, I've got most of the bestiary done. All that's left to pen is the Daedra. I'm also getting started writing out the perks.

The biggest crutch of all is enchanting. I'm tempted to put that on hold until after this makes its first release, unless somebody can offer me suggestions on how I could do enchanting in as simple a way as possible.

As long as magic is unique and you can make it in any way you want, I'm fine.

The daedroth can also spit a loogie every other round.

Funniest creature ability description EVER.

Also, you misspelled "Spider Daedra". And "Bestiary". (There's only one 'a' in 'bestiary'). Yeah, spelling Nazi.

I choose to take that comment as a compliment :)
But for one it doesn't have shred of originality. It's just a (still incomplete)collection of optional rules.
And to use it, one would have to invest in some hefty rulebooks. SPECIAL is free.

I still would very much like to see your take on it. The more the merrier

I'll have it done by the end of May at the latest! Even though school might get in the way some.

EDIT: Okay, got a little carried away there. Let me re-evaluate:
  • I might have the numbers for the creatures done, and the enchanting system done by the end of May, what with school and all.
  • After that, I have to draft the perks, which would take at least a week.
  • After that, I have to contact at least 3 different RPG specialists and have them beta and proofread it. That'll take at least 2.5 weeks.
  • Then, I have to design the character sheet, write the numbers into easily digestible rulebooks, and only then will I be ready to release it. That'll take at least 1.5 weeks.

In conclusion, I'll have it done by mid-July at the earliest.

I thought about doing the perks so that there's 10 perks each for combat, magic, and stealth, as well as 10 general-purpose perks. Here are some ideas:

*Skill Snowballing: Raise any skill by a number directly proportional to the number of ranks you've put into the perk.
*Potion Tolerance: Raises the number of potions you can drink per hour by one.
*Polymathic Magicka: Allows you to specialize in one other magicka school than your original.

Polymathic magicka is a good one. Potion tolerance not so. It makes perfect sense in a computer game. Not so much in a p&p game.
Perks should give a character a special, useful bonus or ability. Steer clear of adding extra bookkeeping for the sake of ..well, bookkeeping.

What do you mean by "bookkeeping?"

If players need to keep tabs on how many potions they've poured down their gullets, that's bookkeeping they or you don't need. Me thinks. Unless, of course, you have a "Random multiple-potion volatility-table" up your sleeve, where you can roll for fun effects and fireworks if characters drink one too many :chaos:
