"Tactical Options" - annoying?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:56 am

Why did Crytek add this? I really don't want even suggestions on how to play the game, and this makes the game even more linear than it already is.

Crysis 2 is better off without stuff like this, or maybe nVidia decided to go a little too far in implementing "the way it's meant to be played."

LOL

Yeah seriously, I figured it was only because I wasn't playing on post-human warrior (waiting to do that when dx11 comes out) but I asked a friend and he says tac-options are still there... I find them to be the dumbest thing ever, and I always ignore them.

I totally agree with you, this is one of the things that annoys me the most about crysis 2 (and the fact that its super linear compared to the first one)

The tactical options are completely useless to anyone who played the original Crysis. They'd already have the tactical visor programed into their brain.

They're obviously there because the consolers would otherwise just run into battle haphazardly and get their limbs reassembled by koreans...I mean cell...I mean ceph... er... noodly appendages.

Its a port, so the casual console level is catered for. Not what we are used to, but one size fits all now sadly.

It's not a port. I think everyone in the forums should know this by now considering I've already explained the CryEngine 3 and how it works more than enough. Learn how the **** engine works if you don't believe me that it's not a port.

And just because the game is on consoles DOES NOT MEAN its casual. Console=/=casual. Look at MGS4, Uncharted 2 (online), and Killzone 3. These aren't casual games yet all of them are on a console. Crysis 2 is merely controller friendly. Graphics is another story, but in terms of gameplay, it's just so it is built around the idea of a controller AND mouse/keyboard.

As for the tactical options thing, it's not a hassle. It's ignorable and I still play how I want. Remember, Crysis 2 has a MUCH BIGGER audience on both PC AND consoles. Crysis 1 did not have a big gamer base when it was initially released. The base for the initial release of Crysis 2 is much bigger. Plus it's Nanosuit 2.0. Thinking on how Cevat's head works, he probably thought it would be a nice addition.

+1 for you sir! That is very true! lol.

I play Crysis 1 a lot and in Crysis 2, I find these "tactical options" rather annoying. However, they're useful only about 1-3% at a time. I mostly use the tac visor for tagging weapons and enemies.

I personally found it quite funny when "Ledge Grab" came up on the tac. assessment HUD.

Yeah. It's not a port, but it does the 'port' thing better any actual port. Much better. For example, if GTA:IV came after C2, who would even think it's a port any more? No one.

Yeah the tactical options is a joke. It's there only to make console players feel like they are playing Crysis, even if it makes no difference to any other corridor-type of a game. But you don't have to use it, so what the ****. This is the least of this games problems.

The tactical mode is really useful but these "tacticool options" aren't really needed, although I don't mind the game occasionally reminding me "derez HMG ovar der btw"

They added it to create the illusion that you have freedom, and other options. Sort of like you had in Crysis 1, where you could take various routes seperatedby 100's of meters.

Now your different routes are basicly, you can go left of the car or right of the car. Thats why they added it. Its to make you think you have a choice, but really, you can only go forward.

But in C1 gameplay the only linier thing was that there is only 1 end to a level, but getting there could be done in many different ways.

I've had this game since release and honestly, I havn't finished the single player yet as because of the extreme linear game style and the Tacticle Options is SO annoying.. I'll play like 30 minutes then I hear Tac Options and then i remember why I havn't played it finish..

Multiplayer is the only thing still keeping me with this game...

Reminds me of a 4 year old covering his ears chanting "CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!" as we tell him the hard truth.

Look , silly fanboy. This might not be technically a port in the truest definition of the word, but just because CryEngine spits out 3 versions at once, doesn't mean they didn't design the game with the lowest-spec'ed common platform in mind. If it's meant to run on the Xbox, what shall we call it? a PC-lite Game?

Use your brain for more than idolizing Crytek's engine and you might see the truth.

Who cares how amazing their engine is if they use almost none of it's power in the game?

^^^THIS^^^ +1

And I can't stand the hand holding in the game either. They need to patch the "tactical options" alerts out or put an option in to turn them off.

I also can't stand the blue objective indicators they put on the screen. Give me a map to pull up like in the first two. It's distracting, wreaks of a console feature and treats the player like their an idiot.

Listen u buttmunch Silent you are too stupid to be a mammal. Live Create only works for maps and adding asserts to the maps. With live create a level designer does not have to create levels on all three platforms but instead he/she can do it simultaneously.

Its just for Level designers not game programmers. But if you had some grey matter in ur giant waste of space you call ur skull you would know that.

I too hate the retard mode. The levels are too small and retard more takes the fun out of exploring. I think its targeted audience are short attention span console gamers, well if you can call them gamers

Dude you cant explain anything to that guy... He is probably a majority stockholder of Crytek because he defends this game no matter what...

Oh and the "retard mode" thing made me chuckle :)

I also would like to be able to turn off the Nanosuit's GPS - aka it tells you how to play the damn game for you -_-
