TAG during character creation. Will it return?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 11:37 am

If I recall correctly, during character creation in the previous games, you were given at least one perk, maybe two or three, but, you ALSO got to TAG some skills that would advance faster (at lower cost) than other skills.

I think you got to TAG at least 3 skills, and there was even a perk available that allowed for an additional TAG.

Will TAG return, and, since we don't have SKILLS per se like we once had, how do you think TAG would work?

TAG a SPECIAL attribute and get an extra perk in that category every other or few levels?

TAG a SPECIAL attribute and get a one-time extra point for that attribute?

TAG a PERK, and skip one rank?

Other possibilities?

No TAG system at all?

Thoughts?

:)

With skills gone...what are supposed to TAG?
Tagging I fear is one of those features that is just...not useful.

Unless we tag specials or it give us a free perk(like picking the skill in luck for example) I don't see why it should be in.

The real question is if traits will be making a return. I don't remember seeing them in the demo, but an absence of evidence is not evidence of an absence. And unlike TAG, which has been made irrelevant by the new system, traits seem like they would still work just fine.

They'll probably make it so that you can "TAG" a perk or two when you first start out

I'd say this too, might not be called tag but they'll probably allow you to pick a couple perks to start out with.

I pray traits make a return. Todd said Fallout 4 was restrictive and focused on each character being unique. What better way to do both of those at the same time than traits?

I've always liked traits, because they give, but they also take. I always agonize over traits, pondering which one benefits the character in the back of my head. Far more valuable to character than skills, which are just tools.

Tag's most likely gone, Traits we still don't know about, you could get them in the vault and it would make sense from a story POV. Will that happen probably not but it could.

It's probably gonna be tagging a perk, so instead of bumping your science skill up by 15 you instead tag the first tier perk of science

This. I'd love to see some interesting traits included for that extra layer of unique character creation ! Maybe even traits that are earned through game play like the automatic New Vegas perks.

Not quite sure how tagging would work anyway, if your putting points into SPECIAL I'd assume whatever you invest in can kinda become your "tagged" abilities.

I personally doubt TAG will be in.

Mostly because Skyrim didn't let you do anything like tag Hp/Magicka/Stamina to give them an early boost at the start of the game.

Skyrim isn't Fallout. The devs are focused on making Fallout 4 a Fallout game, not a TES game.

That doesn't really change anything. It was never part of Fallout to tag perks, and with the removal of skills, there's nothing to tag.

It also makes sense they would want to start everyone off basically the same. They got rid of things like classes/birthsigns in TES in order to prevent the "I picked this at game start before I actually knew how the game played, and before I actually knew if I was actually going to want these or not!" problems they believe older TES games had. And TAG is basically the classes/brthsigns bonuses of Fallout.

Removing TAG is just Fallout's version of removing classes/birthsigns.

Traits have negative effects that perks don't.

It's hard to say what they are doing 100% with so little information we have on the subject.

I know, its just my opinion they will remove it for the same reason they removed classes and birthsigns in TES.

Todd has made it clear he hates things like that, where people are forced to make decisions about how their character plays, before they have even played the game.

That was even his reason for adding in the face sculptor in the Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim, he said he thought it was kinda dumb that the first decision you make about your character, how they look, couldn't be changed.

So your reasoning about it is Skyrim don't have it so Fallout 4 won't have it? Are you aware that Fallout=/=Skyrim? You are constantly bringing Skyrim in every thread, could you please let one thread be only about Fallout 4 and not about your love for Skyrim?

Both are made by the same team, in the same company, and are thus made using the ideal gameplay ideals.

There is a reason Fallout 3 was called "Oblivion with guns"

I think you will get to Tag! a few things. I have offered a theory in a few other threads about this. I think once we get inside the vault we are assigned a room and then have to take a test of some sort to determine where we best fit in the vault. I think Fallout Shelter provides us a clue about this. In Shelter you assign dwellers based on their SPECIAL stats, the higher the stat that fits the area, the more productive and happy the dweller. In FO4 we may be assigned a task or job inside the vault based on the highest SPECIAL stat we have selected, and as part of the test we get to pick a perk or two or three to start with.

Remember that Todd Howard said at E3 that "events transpire" once inside the vault. So I don't think we go straight into cryo once we arrive. Something happens inside that forces us and everyone else into cryo to survive. We will find out later that the reason was a lie and the whole point of vault 111 is cryo.
