Taking notes

Post » Fri Sep 16, 2011 9:51 pm

I think I've reached the ultimate of nerdom tonight. Well actually, it started earlier this week. Instead of listening to quest givers with half an ear, knowing I can just look up anything I need later on with the in-game journal, I've actually started taking my own notes. By doing this, I can completely ignore the in-game stuff, which are a little too hand-holdy sometimes.

Kate is doing both the DB and TG questlines now, and after really paying attention to Armand and Ocheeva, I am finding it's actually kinda fun making my own journal. I write chicken-scratch while receiving Kate's quests. Just write down names, locations, what I should do. Later I'll straighten things out so it makes sense and is easier to read. :D

Try it! I'm really wishing I had started this habit earlier!

*embarrassed look* I do that. In fact it's so bad, the hubby has a fit. Mixed in with the bills on the desk are all my notes on my character and game directions. It drives him crazy because he's looking for something specific and runs across my notes that say stuff. And usually it's in some type of shorthand or abbreviated and I know what it means but it's rubbish to him.

Ha ha! Well I'm just starting with one notebook...one of those marble school books with blue lines on the pages. But who knows...there could one day be tons of notes scattered all about, knowing me.

That sounds like a lot of fun actually. I won't get to try it until Skyrim's out though.

That's a good idea as I find it hard to remember everything I talk to characters about and get up to in regards to doing multiple quests at the same time (especially since one divert from the MQ to a dungeon can see you come out the other end an hour or two later ) and it isn't always clear from simple in-game quest notes what you need to do...if its all jotted out on some paper in front of you, it's probably easier and quicker to link it all together and figure out the logical thing to do

Cheers,

Craig

Yea, and I also avoid that feeling I get..... You know, that feeling like I'm doing something wrong by looking on UESP or checking out the in-game stuff. Like I'm (gulp) cheating. I don't know if you guys get it, but I certainly do.

taking notes will DEFINATELY come in handy during Skyrim. No doubt about it. One of these days, I'm looking forward to being embarassed when one of my friends catches me taking notes while I'm playing!

I still have an old notebook from 2003 that I kept while playing Morrowind. More embarrassingly still, it's right here. It's a 1Subject, College Rule, 80 Sheets, 8"x5" spiral bound notebook made by the Top Flight Company. I also used to make notations in it while doing research before writing a post on the Morrowind Mods forum (a true geek can't just write a post on a gaming forum; he or she has to do extensive research first).

Hey, would you mind giving us a sample? Like just pick a journal page and type what's on there? :) That would be fun to read.

The more cryptic the page, the better too. Then we could sit here and dissect it and make up BS about it.
