I've been lurking for a while and thought it was time I started contributing.
While reading the new info on Skyrim, I couldn't help notice the similarities in combat to one of my favorite games of all time: Demon's Souls. In that game, you also equip your hands individually. You could go sword and board, weapon and magic, magic and shield, etc. There's a lot more strategy than you might thing to this approach, especially now that Beth is nerfing running backwards. You're really going to have to plan out your attacks before taking on a baddie. I wonder if Beth saw this is Demon's Souls and thought that it would be a great addition to TES. From the little info we got, it sounds like Beth is taking this beyond what DS did (spell combining when having spells in both hands). I just hope they come up with more great ideas for this system.
With the info we have, do you think there are other games that have influenced Skyrim's direction? I've never played it, but I've read (from other posters) the dragon hunting in Gothic 2 might be an influence as well.
