Taking on Umbra

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 11:41 am

What lvl should i be when i go to fight umbra? Right now i am a lvl 5 warr and looking for a good armor set and sword. Im holding off on doing the KOTN quest line as well as the main quest. I just completed the arena questline as my warr used it for training before going into ruins to loot. Im focusing on making the game experence last this time around

I'm not sure if this is going to answer your question the way you meant it, but you're supposed to be level 20 to start Clavicus Vile's quest. :)

Yes, you can go and fight her at any level. It will be murder if you attack her without being given the quest. Also be warned that she's a tough fight; she's a level 50 warrior with good equipment. Also, be warned that her armor is leveled; it's Ebony, but it's only full ebony armor rating if you're level 15+.

Umbra is always level 50 and she's got a darn fine set of stats, skills and gear - and she knows how to use them. While it is quite possible to kill her at level 1, do not underestimate her. If you just walk in there at level 5 with iron gear and try to take her toe-to-toe using simple melee without some serious strategy, she'll kill you - and quickly.

If you want more info on what makes her tick, here's a link: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Umbra_%28person%29

You can kill Umbra at any level but as was said,be prepared for a tough fight ,I found that using the "Staff of Hoarfrost" from a distance did the job quickly and cleanly.

Baa just lets her companion, Mooch, kill her, (Necklace of Swords - Reflect Damage 33%) so Baa wouldn't get charged with murder. Then she did the Shrine quest afterward. Backwards, so to speak. Yeah, I know, that's not nice, but Baa's kind of an impulsive girl and I don't have a lot of control over her.

Just have 100% sneak and it′s no biggie. It wasn′t hard at all with a fair fight either. She′s not like Morrowind-Umbra :bolt:

if you have already completed Kotn questline. you would be able to beat her in an instance. she isn't that hard. depends on the difficulty

It's possible to get 100% Reflect Damage, so she can't hurt anyone but herself. The problem is that the items you need for that are only available at levels 20-25, at which point you could probably survive a straight fight without them. That's probably why the Clavicus Vile quest starts at 20.

Someone might be able to kill Umbra at a very low level, but I think it would require some kind of elaborate plan to elicit help in doing so. Baa just got in her time machine and went back to 15Nov2008. She was level 3,with Iron Armor, a Rusty Iron Bow, 96 Iron Arrows, and 123 gp. Her armor rating was 8. She went to Chorrol Castle and picked up two companions placed there years after 2008. Mooch and Calico had Daedric bows and arrows, but were unarmored. We went to the store and bought some cheep rags for them, then headed toward Umbra’s place.

To make a long story short, after trying several ways, they couldn’t do much of anything to Umbra. She looked like a porcupine but was basically undamaged. We even did a little running and swimming to get to some helpful Imperial Guards but http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/hh539/tmodel/Umbra2012-05-0116-11-10-77.jpg just killed them.

What a fabulous shot of Umbra on the rampage!

If you take that darn evil sword from her and free her spirit, she is a lovely wood elf. Here she is in Pells Gate: http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/ScreenShot916.jpg

There is a little crumbled ledge around the gallery you walk through to get down to the room she in. What many people do is jump on that ledge and just shoot her with arrows. She cannot reach you from below, and if she comes up to the gallery, I believe you are still out of her reach. So just bring a few hundred arrows and you should be able to take her down at 1st level.

Is that pre-makeover Buffy I spy with my right little eye? That wood elf has done so much good for Cyrodiil :hugs:

It is! I selected that particular shot of Buffy and Lenwin (Umbra) because it didn't show off Buffy. I suspect it is just her hairstyle that gave her away. :bunny:

It did! :bunny:

The way I managed to kill Umbra on a low level character, is to try and bring her down with arrows, but I forgot how, I got nudged causing me to fall right on top of her!
I used that spike trap to kill her, involved a LOT of jumping.

That, and Superian with her saddlebags and potions. But who am I kidding? I′d probably recognize Buffy in a sea of wood elves :D

Truth be told, I don′t really remember Lothran′s encounter with Umbra. But I suspect it was a straight melee fight and not a hard one either.

Definitely don't underestimate her... when I first went up against her I had to "cheat" by lowering the difficulty :(

I remember trying to take her down with a low-level archer perched out of her reach. An iron bow and arrows take her health down so slowly that I couldn't carry enough of them to do the job!

Baa tried again to bring about the demise of Umbra. She started at 3:30 AM game time and ended at 11:30 AM. The IC guards got a workout.

*puts shield on*

I'm curious, as to why you guys are having such a hard time with Umbra. I've done the whole Umbra thang where I HAD TO HAVE that sword, and have battled her from level 1 and up. Only at level 1 did I take the beating of a lifetime, read: dead. But after that, I can cut her down in about ten seconds. I never use magic, just a poisoned arrow to start, and a poisoned blade to finish. Not dissing or anything, I just have never had issues with this combatant. Are most of you guys stealth guys?
I never go after the sword anymore.... live and let live.
