Taking work as a Guard

Post » Thu Sep 15, 2011 7:40 pm

Anyone else like to do this?

I wouldnt mind taking a bit of Guard work on the side, a bit like Red Dead nah mean?

protect a small village from wolf attacks or bandit raids. Or perhaps join a convoy to escort a wagon for merchants from one hold to the next, receive payment and discounts.

Since you can join the rebellion im guessing u can also join the Legion, perhaps you can become a body/regular guard in the quest line.

I don't see why not. I'm still unsure what we'll be doing when we join the legion, but being able RP a guard can be loads of fun.

It might be interesting at first if its a part of the supposed Imperial Legion faction. I also wouldn't mind a few of these quests being generated randomly in towns, such as "track down Bandit X who is hiding in Cave Y for the crime of Z". The problem is of course making sure 'guard duty' doesnt involve just standing around all day getting slaughtered by passing adventurers. :P

Walk around and stop petty thieves? Great use of the Dovahkiin calling.

Edit: Now, if I get some of that "psychic ability" that they had in Oblivion- sign me up.

Yes that would be an interesting thing to do but it would only be for whatever Hold you are in probably unless PC's don't get Hold restrictions.

Like being a common thief, assassain, rebel, mage, woodcutter, blacksmith, flower picker would be right? Sooooooooooo much better than being a guard...

I would quite enjoy being a guard. If a suspect/criminal tries to run away I'll just Fus Do Ra or Ice breath them into submission. Either that or slow down time, and punch them in the face.

Do you mean by Guard job something different to the Legion quests in MW? Because they were very "quest-like", while I always get the feeling that "jobs" will be more mundane. Maybe this is real life getting in the way of my imagination, though.

I quite like the idea of job quests that are like "make sure nobody gets in here overnight" or perhaps even "keep an eye out for these criminals on your travels"... so quite Red Dead in that sense... but I guess the problem is that if the quests are too long without much happening, people will moan that they're dull, and if it's non-stop crime fighting in a sleepy town somewhere, it becomes a bit silly.

Actually each of your examples provide a far better payout in terms of gold, skill levels and item for the time spent compared to a guard's wage.

Unless, of course, stolen goods are not accounted for stringently and there is much "appreciation" from the local businesses for your efforts to "keep the peace".

Sounds like a good idea. But what would you do?

Stand guard on a tower, or would it be something like Red Dead Redemption's "Night Guard" missions where you just walked round and lasso'd or shot people breaking the law (obviously, we wouldn't be shooting them).

No way I would want to be a guard in a game, and not because I think a good guard is a dead one, but because a guard's work is probably the most boring I can imagine, standing around whole day waiting for something to happen...

I wouldn't want to roleplay a guard. Guard duty is boring and most of the time nothing happens. You just wait for someone to relieve you. Of course if there are Guard Quests they are likely all unrealistically action packed.

In Red Dead you were a common man, in Skyrim you are someone quite important to civilization, so you shouldn′t be assigned tasks like those.

But there′s also woodcutting... :banghead:

Um...I'm seeing conflicts with this idea.

Wasn't your character being led to his/her execution. They escape. And then what take a job as a guard?

I see that blowing over very well with the guards. Then again if it was anything like Oblivion you being in prison before never seemed to phase them.

No job like this are always stupid, wait 30 seconds oooh oooh somthing of interest just happend, deal with it sift over in 5 mins... I don't like mini games and I wouldn't like standing around for 8 hours most of the time doing [censored] all like a guard would if it was realistic. So 'no' I won't be taking work as a guard, if ppl like that sort of thing that's fine by me for it to be in the game. As the great thing about tes, lots of choice, my choice being to murder the guard that gives you the job.

It would be cool if it was quest related. Breaking up an Orc related bar fight, sneaking under the Dukes castel to catch theives who want to steal his gold, resisting/or not the temptation to take bribes from the local fence. It'd be cool.

Since Guards only know things in their holds now wouldn't that only be the guards in the area of your prison?
