Talking to NPC's

Post » Sun Feb 16, 2014 2:59 am

Loved the beta, no real big complaints at all about this game. Don't want anyone thinking I'm here b*%#@ing about stuff, but I just had one problem / question with talking to NPC's. Will there be an option to keep the NPC interactions in third person view? My only concern would be in Cyrodiil, if you're talking to an NPC you won't really get to look around you for incoming attackers. The option to be in third person would allow you to keep an eye out and quickly dodge away and plan your counter attack.

Well to be fair the only npc's you'll be talking in cyrodill will be vendors and those are in safe spots...

If you talk to a guild vendor during a siege at the gate......(assuming you can even do that), you got yourself to blame lol, plenty of time even during a keep siege to go buy something and return to the battle.

Your screen flashes red if something is in combat with you (not just when they hit you). Problem solved.

Didn't know that information, thanks for that.

Seeing someone in the distance running toward you doesn't always mean they are coming in combat. When they're close enough to engage combat then it might already be too late, but if I see you running up the hill I might have 20 yards to get in a good position.

Again. Your screen flashes red when you are in combat. The game determines when you are in combat through a simple yes/no system. It's not a philosophical question.

I don't think you understand what I am explaining. Someone can run up to you without engaging in combat, yes or no? If no, then how will you know they are even around you? Does the screen flash blue at that point? Just because someone is coming out you I don't think it automatically puts you in combat, usually that requires one person to attack or engage.

If you're talking to an NPC for that long in hostile territory, you probably have it coming. More importantly, it's almost impossible to get one-shotted. So you would be at the disadvantage to start (because you should be), but it's not a guaranteed death.

There have been times in other games that I just initiated talking to a NPC and saw someone running up and I had to respond right away, that 1-2 seconds gave me enough time to position out and get the kill. It's not something that will always happen, but in PvP it does happen from time to time. This is most important for a range class like an Archer. But as Lenthas stated it's not an issue if NPC's are only in safe zones.
